Southern Miss doubled teamed Johnson as soon as he got the ball in the post after his initial few baskets. BG did next to nothing to make them pay for the double teams. The first half felt like Simon emptied the cupboard to try to find some rotations. Went ice cold to end the half and had to try to play catch up. I still believe this team has much better depth and shooting than last year. Humphrey was 6th man last year, was about 11th guy used last night. It didn’t look like Adem was on the bench but I could be wrong on that.

I’ll add:
My biggest concern and takeaway from last night is how little Khayat and Green played. Those are high D1 level athletes who if they aren’t a bigger part of the rotation going forward I’m very very concerned.
I was stunned at how little YoYo played. Then when he did he barely had a touch in the offensive end. He also had the single best play of the night going coast to coast for the dunk.
[/quote]

I seems obvious the way YoYo played he is going to commit fouls. However, 2 fouls in the first half with this team and for him shouldn’t have mattered. He had two dunks and created chaos whenever he was on the floor. Then he went to Squire before him in the 2nd half when game began to creep away. Maybe it’s more than I’m seeing, but it felt strange especially once Johnson was being hounded on the outside and double teamed down low.

What I saw from BG reminded me of what I'd expect at the rec center. There are some things I personally will not hang around for. #1, I'm not going to watch Thomas dominate the ball at the top of the court when we have so many guards and ball handlers. #2, I'm not going to watch a team that sets up the half-court offense with the fat kid on the perimeter. The Cavs are way to good this year.

I can only speak for myself (though I'm guessing I'm not alone), but with each passing year, I find myself just simply caring less and less about BG basketball (which I never thought I would say), simply because the end result is always a major disappointment. And that is, no MAC Tournament Championship, which also means, no NCAA Tournament appearance. It's just really, really tough to be and remain a die-hard BG fan. BG has never won the MAC Tournament and is the only MAC school to never have won it. It's been 56 years since BG made the NCAA Tournament and I'm guessing that's longer than a number of people on here have even been alive. Sadly, I'm basically reserved to the idea I'm never going to see BG win the MAC Tournament and get to the NCAA Tournament in my lifetime. And that's not an overdramatic statement, because it's only reinforced with each passing year when they don't. Now, do I find myself getting excited at the start of the MAC Tournament over the start of the regular season? Sure. If we win a game or two in the MAC Tournament, my excitement and anxiety levels really start to climb. But I have to curb my excitement because I know what inevitably is going to happen, and that is, BG will get knocked out. And they do. They always, always do. It will take a MAC Tournament Championship to bring me back to the level of interest I once had in BG hoops. I will always want the very best for this program. But until that day happens, I can only hope I'm around to actually see and experience it. But as past history suggests, I probably won't be.

I watched the game. First thing I said was, “Okay, who are these guys?” I literally have no clue who the players are. I’ll be at the game Friday and hopefully I’ll start to figure out who the players are. Unfortunately, with how the transfer portal works now, it seems like you’re starting over every year and I have no connection to the players.

I'm right there with you. It's hard to stay invested in BG (or MAC) basketball when the conference is a glorified AAU league with transient players using the program for a 1 year stepping stone. Worse, the conference has committed to football over basketball for years and BOTH sports have floundered. The conference and the university both have very different priorities than the fans. Stupidity is a learned inability to learn.

I love both football and men's basketball, and probably in that order. It used to be reversed. That said, in defense of football, BG has at least done some notable things in that football when you compare it to peer competition (such as the rest of the MAC). In the last 25 years alone (which overlaps with the MAC committing more to football), BG has won a couple MAC Championships, has several wins over Power Five teams, has been ranked in the Top-25, has a few bowl wins (but is long overdue for one with how many bowl opportunities there are now), and even hosted College Game Day. BG basketball on the other hand has done virtually none of that. BG's postseason history (or lack thereof) is simply putrid to put it mildly. No MAC Tournament Championships, a spattering of notable wins outside of conference play, and one measly postseason win in the CIT or CBI or whatever event that was. And that measly win was BG's first postseason win of any kind since the 1970's for crying out loud. I love BG hoops, but in all honesty, its arguably the most irrelevant D-I program in the nation. It's downright embarrassing. And BG's ability to change that hinges on something it just can't do - win the MAC Tournament Championship and get to the NCAA Tournament. Until BG wins a MAC Tournament and takes that much needed step to moving the program forward, it will continue to spin its wheels in obscurity.
GO BG!!!

With the MAC's steady decline in both sports, I don't think staying with peer MAC programs is a worthy achievement. The MAC as a whole needs to become more competitive.

I think that this is actually how they should run their offense. That is assuming he can set picks and role in either direction. He is a scorer and if he can facilitate that's a perfect way to set things up.

Keep in mind that he has seen better basketball at the Student Rec Center so I'm not sure how much pick and roll the intramural guys are running these days.

Quick question? Has Bowling Green men's basketball ever won the MAC Tournament? One game and one loss blessed us with the double post on the subject. Just wait until they lose MAC games.
