Could Germain switch sports?
Also it should be noted that when Gates performed his workout for NFL scouts something like 3-5 teams were all that showed up. He totally wowed those teams in attendance, and made all of them believe he could be a future NFL TE. He then proceeded too STILL not get drafted, even though he had wowed these scouts. Gates also didn't have any off the field/court issues or multiple knee surgeries.
NFL teams are limited on the number of players they can bring into camp, and they don't want to waste a spot on someone they don't think has at least some level of potential. Right now I have to believe that Fitch shows nowhere near the potential for an NFL team to use a roster spot on him.

I agree with many of your points and I would like to have a lesson in English please. When does a question become a suggestion? And when does could he switch sports and work out at our pro day mean I think he is going to get drafted?
For all I knew Fitch could have been all state and the next Randy Moss. All I know is that he is the best athlete to play BG Baskteball since I started seriously following it in 1998.
Another point. I dont feel that Fitch could make the switch, however lateral movement is much much harder on bad knees than forward movement. Playing Defense in basketball, jumping for rebounds and coming down after dunks is the worst thing you can possibly do to bad knees.
The wieght of 300 lb lineman cant be good either.

My favorite thing about this post is that you say "with no disrespect meant to anyone" and then take a meaningless shot at the end that is laden with disrespect.brewer wrote:With no disrespect meant for anyone, if the Sworden kid can take out Fitch, the football field is the last place on earth Germain should be (with the probably exception of the hockey arena).
Heck, the guy practically hasn't even been able to practice his entire time at BG. And someone is serious in suggesting he should play football!? I never ceased to be amazed at what I read on internet message boards.
I would also like you to show me who suggested he play football. I asked a question and I would be interested in finding the person who suggested he play football in order to get more information to better answer my question.

The point about where he got drafted is very valid, however he set the precedent and teams know its not ridiculous notion that a guy can never play College football and be a solid NFL player. However the point about how many people went to watch him work out is not very valid because that has more to do with the other prospects Kent had that year.hammb wrote:Also it should be noted that when Gates performed his workout for NFL scouts something like 3-5 teams were all that showed up. If I was to go work out at BGS Pro-Day every team interested in a Center would be there. I have not played football since 8th grade and weigh 160 pounds.
The knee surgeries/Marijuana possession are almost certain to take him out of consideration though. If I was Germain I would go to the workout anyway and just try out. What does he have to lose?
Also Keith McLeod proved (in a sport where they have even fewer roster spots) that there are many other alternatives to goingdirectly to a proffesional teams weekly roster. Not that I am suggesting Fitch will do any of those.

As far as getting his knees in order I only meant that he could not work out at our pro day this year because his knees will not be rehabbed enough. Next year would be his only option should he want to make the jump.PGY Tiercel wrote:I have a hard time believing he can get his knees "in order" with out becoming bionic. Clearly once you have a knee injury you just open yourself up to having more and more. I don't think current medical treatments can ever make it stronger than it was before his first injury. That with the little playing time he has had, and the less then strenous practices, (Dakichs comments about sitting him on a "feeling") I don't think he can become draftworthy. Switching to football seems more likely to cause future knee injuries. Maybe he could take up Bass fishing with the football palyer (was it Keon Newson). He could stil make it on ESPN 2 that way
You did. First post...Germainfitch1 wrote: I would also like you to show me who suggested he play football.

Though I think it looks more like you transposed words at the start, "he could" instead of "could he". But regardless, you're still the one that suggested the NFL workout.

I meant no disrespect to Fitch or Sworden. Basically I was just making it clear that I wasn't trying to reopen the can of worms about whether Sworden was to blame for Fitch's injury. I'm sorry that didn't come across as obvious to you as I thought it did.Germainfitch1 wrote:My favorite thing about this post is that you say "with no disrespect meant to anyone" and then take a meaningless shot at the end that is laden with disrespect.brewer wrote:With no disrespect meant for anyone, if the Sworden kid can take out Fitch, the football field is the last place on earth Germain should be (with the probably exception of the hockey arena).

And yes, by asking the question you were indeed suggesting that it may be a possibility.
Perhaps I am being a bit tough on you. Ripping fellow posters is not my style. However, I seem to be reading an abnormally large number of either useless, annoying, or ridiculous posts on here of late. You are probably not the primary source of that frustration, just the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
Let me change my response to a simple answer to your question: No.

I think you missed the sarcasm of me saying that his knee needs to become bionic. I don't think his knees will ever be rehabbed enough for him to be top athlete again. I think this was a career ending injury, either he will value walking without pain and hang it up himself, or teams will say, "4 serious knee injuries before graduating college, he's not worth the risk"Germainfitch1 wrote:As far as getting his knees in order I only meant that he could not work out at our pro day this year because his knees will not be rehabbed enough. But the words would not need to be transposed in the question that I wrote. "Anyway he could move to football?" Clearly A normal answer would have been. Although an incredible athlete, with his knee injury history it is very unlikely."TG1996 wrote:You did. No one in the depths of this thread spoke to his HS history on the football field. And that one thing would be the second key factor, beyond his knees.
Ah, I gotcha now. Though I think in that case a space is missing. "Any way" instead of "anyway". Semantics are a whore sometimes.Germainfitch1 wrote: But the words would not need to be transposed in the question that I wrote. "Anyway he could move to football?" Yeah that was my bad. Is there ever a time when "Any way" can be two words seperate, back to back?TG1996 wrote:Ah, I gotcha now. Though I think in that case a space is missing. There's some truth to that but look at Maurice Clarrett, he's supposed to be drafted this year and I consider him a bigger train wreck than G.F. was.BGDrew wrote:Fitch was a good player, but I don't think he's good enough to be drafted. Yeah you could put that, but you would be better served to use the phrase "any chance". .. IMO. .. 8)Germainfitch1 wrote:Yeah that was my bad.
