Balls Tate's record is not good but they've got some talent, particularly on the offensive side. They put up 45 on Buffalo last night, led by 14 midway through the 4th and let it get away. They beat NIU and lost narrow, 1 score games to Miami and Western. It's a team we'll beat if we prepare properly over the next 10 days and come out with the kind of energy and execution we did last night but they have enough talent to win if we take it for granted and look ahead to Miami. This will be a good test to see how locked in SL can have this team on BSU and nothing else. A trip up in this game could cost us a ticket to Detroit.

That said, if this team can put together a few more efforts like last night, I don't think we lose again in conference play. Penalties were minimal - we didn't see a bunch of mistakes lining up, false starts, late hits - the kind of unnecessary mental mistakes that this team has been prone to. Took care of the ball, aside from that kickoff return. Tackled well and what I really liked was the way everyone on the defense pursued hard to the ball when they weren't in the immediate area. The laziness that they've shown at times before with that was not there last night. They need to keep that kind of effort and they'll be fine.

Didn't want you folks to think I only show up when the Falcons are playing bad -- I honestly forgot this game was on until midway through the first half. Luckily, I had set it up to record.

This was as complete a game as this team has played under SL. And the play calling was really good, which hasn't always been the case this season.

Now, do I think they can win next week and beat The Trust Fund Babies in the home finale? Not really. I'm suffering from long-term Falcon sports PTSD in some ways. Too many years of bad play and/or disappointments. I will be rooting hard for them, though.

It's just that after seeing some very winnable games get flushed each year under this coach, I'm very much in "show me" mode so far as any titles go this season. And if, somehow, BG finds a way to win that MAC title, then SL can stay as long as he likes, provided the program doesn't fall off a cliff again.

This is exactly what you hope to see from a coach who's had 5 years on the job...stability can be a real benefit.

Said it before...Stewart and Fannin are going to be the best players on the field during the MAC schedule. Add in Bazelak ...who's as good or better than any other QB in the conference and you should expect to win the MAC
