@ St. Thomas (11/15-16)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a weekend off, our Falcons (5-3-0) head to Minnesota to take on St. Thomas (2-5-2) next in CCHA play. There is a discrepancy on our website vs. theirs about what time the games will start due to the time zone change, but my understanding is that Friday night’s game will begin at 8:07pm EST and Saturday night’s game will begin at 7:07pm EST.

The Tommies were picked right at the top of the conference in the preseason CCHA poll, but they have started slow this year. However, I would expect a battle from them this weekend. They have a good bit of talent, and as much as I hate him, Rico Blasi has been a good coach for them. Liam Malmquist leads the CCHA in points, so we’ll have to limit his impact this weekend if we hope to win.

Goalie Matchup:

BGSU

Cole Moore, 6’6 Sophomore
-8 GP
-2.62 GAA
-.917 SV%

ST. THOMAS

Aaron Trotter, 6’2 Junior
-6 GP
-2.83 GAA
-.891 SV%

Jake Sibell, 6’2 Senior
-4 GP
-3.38 GAA
-.887

Come back with some wins, boys! Go BG!

We seem to have a very solid goal-tender, until we get some legitimate offensive weapons on multiple lines we are going to be reverting back to the Bergeron philosophy of first to three wins. If we can put the puck in the net some I feel good both about both nights, struggle there we will be in a fight to win 1 - 0 or 2- 1. But that's been our mode of operation for years so nothing new hear.

Down 2-1 about 5 to go in 2nd. Need to stay out of the box and get some quality offensive chances

Jack Blake wins the extra point in the 5th round of the shootout!

I had an event this evening, how’d we look?

Overall, very good. Still quite undisciplined. Forecheck gave St. Thomas fits most of the night. Team plays hard every shift. Blake's goal was Datsyuk like with a flip to the left while going right.

BG tied the game after the Tommies took a major charging penalty.

A bit out of sorts at times. Stats show 32-28 shots, but most were harmless. A lot of whistles killing any kind of flow to the game.

Lot of head scratcher penalties. One can preach "stay out of the box" until they're blue in the face, but the look on the players' face in the box told the story. You will not bring a physical game into St Thomas. Apparently, they're fragile unless they're jumping at your head with elbow extended.

Jack Blake with the game winner in the Shootout, yet he still does not have an official collegiate goal.

A couple of bad bounces lead to 2 goals for the Tommies. Doran gets one back, down 2-1 after 1.

BG has a forecheck? I thought we were promised one, but I haven't seen it (I see only home games).
