@ Bellarmine (11/23)
Re: @ Bellarmine (11/23)
I’m also high on Simon and think he was the right hire, but that’s an awful, awful loss. He better get this team together or this will be a long season.

I think by mac play our best 5 is Campbell, butler, yoyo, johnson, and towns. Let Thomas play off the bench and if his shot is falling he can play starter minutes. Rest of the bench is felt and Green then exacte if needed

It has to get to something like that.Hammer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 5:00 pmThis 100%fanatic13 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 4:56 pm This is a learn from it and burn it

Although I still think Humphrey can play. He's a great kid and may not be as talented as others he seems to do well in limited minutes.
I've yet to see any reason for Exacte to play. Hopefully he shows me later..
Re: @ Bellarmine (11/23)
I'm not gonna argue with you there. When the ball is in other guards hands they seem to try and attack off the dribble. Heck so does Johnson and to some degree towns. It's clear that drive and kick to shooters is the plan, but Thomas never actually beats anybody off the dribble. He's no threat thereHammer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 4:44 pmI question what Trey is supposed to do out there. We don’t really seem to run an offense. Get better defenders on the floor. Our lineups are a head scratcher for me.hammb wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 4:41 pm This one is a total embarrassment. Just like last year a team of talented athletes gets its doors blown off because Bellarmine shows up and actually executed the game of basketball.
For the life of me I will never understand putting the ball in trey Thomas's hands all game long. He's terrible. And you can't run an offense through a 6'7 kid that can't move no matter how skilled he is. We do nothing on offense most of the game and defensively just don't ever seem to give a damn.
Awful effort all around
If he's a player at this level it's as an off ball guard catching and shooting.

I’m a fan of simon, but this was a very bad loss. Probably the worst D1 team we will see this year maybe aside from NIU. Its early I get it, but they need to continue to get better and find what works well and what doesn’t. Flat out unacceptable loss.

One positive is the conference appears to be total dog poop. As I type this Toledo is down 35 to UC San Diego.

While it's a concern when nearly every MAC team has lost to Top 100 Kenpom teams by 20 points or more -- (BG has lone MAC Top 100 win vs. GMason) ...
It is a problem when you are losing by 20-points to sub 300-Kenpom teams. .... And BG has done both.

Re: @ Bellarmine (11/23)
Huh? BG never played George Mason. Also never lost by 20 to anyone this season. The usual Kent Ohio Akron & Toledo will be at the top, though none of them are actually that good. Kent might be the best? The bottom of the MAC is terrible and poorly coached as usual.

Kenpom this early in the season is useless. Simply, there are no where near enough statistical observations to discern anything. Until February rolls around, Kenpom is noise.

MY bad ... CMU beat George Mason. Not BG. Brain fart on me.
As I see it, BG and CMU both have rosters talented enough to leapfrog one or all of the Top 4 (Ohio, Akron Toledo, Kent). The key will be staying healthy, winning that one game you probably should have lost, and coaching down the stretch.
No matter where they finish in the standings, the top 4 teams have the most proven coaches in the league. Come MAC Tournament time BG/CMU will likely have to face at least two of them, if not three. Even in a down year (see Kent last season) they know how to lock in come March. BG/CMU have to be ready for all of that - regular season and March.
