Was thinking this the other night at the WMU game. Teams would do all they could to stop Barnes and still couldn't...Fannin is the same way.

For sure.

With the caveat that my interest in college football these days is mostly relegated to what players will do at the next level I think I'm coming up on the idea that Fannin is the best offensive player at BG in the past 25 yrs. I'll be stunned if he's not the highest drafted Falcon in that time period (Lichtensteiger at pick 108 holds that mark). Hell, he could end up being the highest drafted Falcon since Phil V went #45.

On his latest big board posted to ESPN...Kuiper does not list Fannin as one of the top TE's in the class, but does list him as the #1 H back/full back in the draft.

Being thought of as less of an all around TE and more of a niche player could def hurt his draft stock

It's my biggest fear for his draft stock.

By NCAA standards he's probably on the smallish side. By NFL standards he's very tiny. He's definitely not likely to ever play as a true in-line TE.

That said, his listed height/weight at BG is identical to Brock Bowers listing on NFL.com Obviously playing at BG rather than Georgia he's not going in the 1stround, but there's a lot of comparisons to their games in college and how they were used. There's absolutely plenty of H-Back role for these guys in the league and Bowers is currently leading the league in receiving yards.

Brock didn't test at the combine, but ran a 4.53 at his pro day. He did get measured at the combine closer to 240, but his profile page shows 230 on nfl.com. If Fannin displays anywhere near that level of athleticism he'll be ok. If he's gonna run a 4.7 at his size it'll hurt. 4.7 is fine for a TE, but he needs to be more than that since he doesn't have prototype TE size.

This is always the way it goes for our best players/prospects. They're tweeners, much like Karl Brooks was. I still love Fannin, and could see him being a great player in the right situation. Hopefully that's Cleveland.

Fanin goes 31 overall to the Chiefs.

Nice to see the Lions getting mocked at pick 32...heady times in Detroit. I think the emergence of Sonic and Knuckles in Detroit and the success Barkley has had moving to the Eagles..RB will be higher on the board than where they mocked Jeanty. RB's are BACK!

KC would be a perfect fit for Fannin...no pressure right away..he can ease into the system

If we're taking an OSU edge #1...Would prefer the Lions to draft Sawyer over Tuimoloau

Warren wins the Mackey. No way they'd ever give it to a G6 player.

It’s disgusting but of course it goes to the best TE in the G4. They aren’t going to spread that love.

Fannin was named a Walter Camp 1st Team All-American. I believe he's the first Falcon to do that in its 130 year existence.

As the best tight end in college football, this makes all the sense in the world to me.

Single-season records don't matter to this award apparently. Neither guy Fannin is chasing for single-season receiving yards or single-season receptions won the award either

Completely unsurprising, and also further exemplifies why it's so hard to really pay attention or care to MAC/BG football anymore. It's D1 in name only.

100% certain that the awards voters go in with the mindset that just getting a G6 player to the show as a finalist counts as them "winning", and they have zero chance to actually win a meaningful award. Barnes losing out on the Biletnikoff years ago rubbed me the wrong way, but Fannin's snub seems even worse.

The 2 best TEs also had the unusual occurrence of playing against one another. They put up similarly dominant numbers, but Fannin did it against PSU's defense, Warren did it against BG's. IT's one thing to scream "quality of competition" when you get to these awards, but when BG did go up against top tier competition Fannin still produced, and did so in ways that kept his team in games they had no business being in. I don't even know how many games BG wins this year w/o Fannin because he WAS the offense all too often.

Warren is likely the higher graded NFL prospect, but Fannin had the better 2024 season. I hope Fannin uses this as a chip on his shoulder to have the better NFL career.

The awards this year were handed out to paint a media narrative. Travis Hunter somehow won the Biletnikoff all the while Nick Nash won the triple crown amongst receivers (receptions, yards, TDs). He's going to the NFL so he has to get his flowers, as if winning the Heisman isn't going to be enough. It's all a joke. Not surprised one bit. ESPN didn't even mention Fannin when announcing the award. You're right, the G6 is irrelevant in the eyes of the average college football consumer who votes on these things.

As you said, I hope Harold rocks it in whatever showcase game he makes it to, and dominates at the combine, assuming he declares and gets an invite.
