vs. Northern Michigan (12/13-14)

Post by mbenecke »

Our Falcons (5-7-2) will be home once again this weekend, taking on the NMU Wildcats (1-14-1). Obviously, this is as bad an NMU team as I can remember since I started following hockey more than a decade ago, but it doesn’t mean we can just assume 2 easy wins here. Our guys are going to have to earn it.

That being said… they are really bad. I mean, they have scored 1 goal or less in 8 straight games, and only scored more than 1 goal one time in their last 12 games. As bad as it gets in college hockey.

And because I’m a self-centered a-hole tempting fate - BG has lost 15 of their last 16 hockey games with me in attendance, including 7 in a row dating back to November 2022… but I will be there for Friday’s game. If we lose this one, I might have to leave the country or something. My goodness.

Go Falcons. Please win.

This is the type of series we'd traditionally F up. I'm interested to see the Willy factor in play here. A 6-point (grrr, I mean 1.000) Diamond Cutter or bust.

If there's one thing I know about bad hockey teams, they bring their best game of the season against BG, no matter how well BG tends to play.

You may want to think about leaving midway third. We will find you. And determine YOUR fate in the Ice Arena.

If we're losing during the 3rd period, I'll be halfway to Canada already.

2 games then 2 weeks off. Focus is going to be key. And that's for both teams.

Pretty jacked for tonight's game. Hitting Pizza Pub 516 beforehand for dinner, and then sitting in a different section than normal tonight (gotta break this curse somehow). Let's get this dub.

The CCHA prognosticators who participate in The CCHA Show podcast (all of whom are Minnesotans - go figure) each predict we're going to drop one of these two games. I'd like for them to have to apologize next week. We really need a diamond cutter if we hope to hold on to any chance of home ice for the playoffs. Even Ferris is sweeping these guys, we can't give up any more ground.

Play your normal game and Falcons will be fine. Let in a couple cheap goals we could be in trouble, because we don't score enough to overcome a-lot of obstacles. Should be 5+ goal nights but we know how that goes.

There is nothing out of the CCHA league office worth listening to. Don't waste your time.

During Willy’s pressers the past week+ and Dylan’s coaches talk tonight the theme has been not to worry about them but focus on us and impose on them the way we want to play. After 1, not a lot of will imposing has taken place. 0-0 after 1.

A modicum of will was imposed the first 10 min then a whole lotta will was imposed the second 10. 1-0.
