@ Ferris State (1/17-18)
Following a hectic win-tie home weekend with Bemidji, our Falcons (11-7-3, 3rd CCHA) ride a 7-game unbeaten streak up to Big Rapids, MI as they take on the Ferris State Bulldogs (6-14-2, 8th CCHA). Friday night’s game will begin at 7:07pm, while Saturday night’s contest will begin at 6:07pm. Both will be available to stream through Midco Sports Plus.
Ferris has lost 4 in a row, including giving up 13 goals to St. Thomas last weekend. They also had a 6-game losing streak earlier in the year - which included 2-0 and 5-4 losses here in Bowling Green. The two ties on their record were both against Miami (3-15-2), at home, to open the season. They did jump up and bite Bemidji in October, and they also have a win against Augustana from right before Thanksgiving, but with respect to Bob Daniels’ program, this feels like a series where we should expect to go up there and stack some wins.
NOTABLE STATS:
-Ferris scores 2.14 goals per game and gives up 3.68 per game, good for 8th and last in the CCHA, respectively.
-Despite not scoring much, they are 3rd in the CCHA in shots on goal per game, so I expect whoever is in net will face a lot of shots. But BG is 1st in the league in that stat, so they should expect to see a ton of shots too.
-Ferris power play converts at just a .145 clip (8th CCHA) while ours hits at a .211 clip (4th CCHA). Their PK unit is also only at .655, good for last in the CCHA by a wide margin. Ours gets stops at a .778 clip, which still isn’t as good as it needs to be but is a much more respectable 5th in the CCHA.
-Another spot where we will have a huge advantage is the face-off circle, where we lead the CCHA at a .530 clip, while Ferris is 7th at .465.
-While it’s not a big strength of ours either, Ferris also ranks last in the CCHA with just 9.68 blocked shots per game.
-Their goalie Noah West has played in 21 games and started 20 of them, so I would expect to see him both nights this weekend, assuming health.
GOALIE STATS:
Ferris State
Noah West (Sr.) - 21 GP, 3.22 GAA, .899 SV%
BGSU
Christian Stoever (Sr.) - 8 GP, 1.77 GAA, .947 SV%
Cole Moore (So.) - 15 GP, 2.90 GAA, .906 SV%
Go Falcons! Keep it rolling!

BG leads 3-0 at the end of the first period. Heck of a fast start. Goals from Martin, O’Hara, and Immonen.

We’re pretty much all over these guys. Hot Stoev has made a few really nice saves but most of the play is in the Ferris end (when we aren’t sitting in the penalty box). Reporting live from Ewigleben. 3-zip good guys.

Penalty after penalty. Second time we’ve been 3-on-5. Killed it off. Stay out of the box.

It’s 3-2 now. Beyond frustrating that we keep letting leads slip.

Falcons lead 3-2 after 2 periods. Gonna take a strong 3rd period here to hold on to win.

It’s going to be a tough final 20 if we don’t stay out of the box.

Most penalized team in the CCHA. Has to be one of our top priorities moving forward, to fix that.

Stoever makes the save on a 3-on-1 but they slam home the rebound. 4-3. Gonna be a nail biter.

Not going to be allowed to happen if they keep winning. Last weekend was very obvious what the desired outcome was.

I definitely agree that we get more than our fair share of calls, and plenty of questionable ones, but I still think we could play smarter/cleaner hockey.

Re: @ Ferris State (1/17-18)
We looked really good in the first. Felt like we took our foot off the gas in the second and through stretches of the third. Way too many penalties. We can kinda/sorta get away with that against Ferris but better teams will make us pay for that.

Up 2-0 early on goals from Emerson and Waters.
