For the good of the CCHA, I hope they swing big.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 2:30 pm Daniels is retiring at the end of the season.

Jeff Blashill is a Ferris alum, was an assistant there for 3 years, and his brother is the program coordinator at their arena.
Trevor Large (Canisius HC) is an alumnus, as well.
And those are just Ferris guys!
Chris Bergeron, as a guy with a lot of success here in the CCHA/WCHA, should get a call.
Eric Lang is done at AIC, so he's going to end up a hot name in this cycle. Ferris would be wise to give him a bunch of money.
And I'll say it... if Mel Pearson wants to coach again, a smaller profile program within the same state and conference as most of his success makes sense.
I expect them to do the lame thing, which is to promote from within, but I think it would be a huge boost to the CCHA's national reputation if a program like Ferris became relevant again.

Only one within each is Large. Berge is in the AHL. Blashill is out of reach. Would Large consider a lateral move? Lang will stay east. Schutte might get a look. It's possible a BG assistant gets a look. For as up and down as Ferris is over the years, Daniels is going to be hard to replace with consistent results.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 2:41 pm

I think their challenge is that any money they have will probably go to football. Ferris just won the DII national championship for the 3rd time in 4 years. They're now a DII football power and with their limited resources I'd think hockey wouldn't get a lot of love. That may impact who is willing to take the gig. But I agree with you that a big name can really make a huge impact. Just don't mention their rink to the candidates, let them find out for themselves after the contract is inked.

I'm not one to listen to podcasts, but that's a good listen. Just over 40 minutes long, but it goes quick. Willy is definitely a story teller.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:24 pm Willy is interviewed on one of the CCHA podcasts.

Here's a visual showing how challenging the second period has been for us this year. Data is through the Ferris series sans exhibitions. We've given up nearly twice as many goals in the second as we've scored (13-25).
Edit: Math error, 19 vs. 16 goals in the first, 12 goals vs. 25 in the second.

And it seems like the overall play in the 2nd is better than it was last season.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:21 pm Here's a visual showing how challenging the second period has been for us this year. Here's the same data but broken down into 5 minute increments within each period. Wow, we give up a lot of goals in the last 5 minutes of the second period but then we come out of the locker room and get one back in the first 5 minutes of the third.

2nd period as a whole is pretty bad. Period with the long change, probably speaks to times where players get hemmed in their own zone for extended portions and can't get off the ice.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 3:36 pm Here's the same data but broken down into 5 minute increments within each period.
