Kinda odd that he's going to Philly...Jalen Hurts isn't really the kind of QB he recruited here. He's entering his 6th year in the league..not sure how much tinkering SL is going to do or how receptive Hurst will be to hearing it.
I don't think it's a football decision, necessarily.
I think it's the insanity of the college football calendar, how it's 24/7, 365. In the NFL, you get actual time off during the offseason. You aren't putting out NIL fires or recruiting. So I think the quality of life has to be better in the NFL, and I can't blame him for wanting that.

What a shock. I don’t think it’s a terrible move to move on from Loeffler, but man the timing is terrible
It's hard not to be a bit salty about the timing. Puts the program is a very dangerous position, and whoever the new coach is with a massive uphill battle to climb to both try and hold the roster together, and attack the portal to fill holes. 2025 may wind up being a throw away year.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'm usually a big "Its a business, s**t happens" kinda guy..... but man especially for a MAC squad, losing your coach in late February before the portal opens is brutal

I was thinking that more from the Eagles POV...it's not like Scot has a long NFL history and his results here were kinda mixed
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
I assume they will be on a new coach within 2 weeks and had a short list already.
The players we recruited don't exactly have a ton of teams to transfer to so I would assume that many just stay
I think it will be Mike Jacobs from Mercer-he will bring former BG DB Jahmal Brown as the DC
Jacobs will bring guys from Mercer to BG
We will lose some guys but in an era where they can just transfer next year anyway for many playing 1 year at BG is basically meaningless
Things go well great, you stay, things go poorly you leave
If we wanted to get an extension done we should have done that in the last 3 months since the regular season finished. It wouldn't have stopped Loeffler from leaving but it would help get a bigger buyout.
Need to move quickly as it's March and there's no guarantees the full staff will come with a new coach. Good news is that we still have time and a full staff of coaches here to give the new guy a supplement of options. With the amount of guys we lost this year and the portal era we need to get the right coach or we can spiral quickly.
For Loeffler it's a great move going to a super bowl team and the highest coaching position outside of coordinator. Less stress and will give him opportunities to move elsewhere
DVDM had a lunch scheduled today with donors and fans; the call went out this morning that it was postponed because he's working on finding the next football coach. I think it's safe to say he isn't just going to take the easy route and promote somebody on an interim basis.

LOL. I was on my way into town for that lunch this afternoon. I got the cancellation call about a third of the way there this morning.

You mean to tell me I missed my chance to eat lunch with both DVDM AND the infamous footballguy51? f**k me!
Well, hopefully we can both make the rescheduled date when it comes up.
From some trusted sources, contract provisions were made recently to SL’s contract to include a clause of if he left for the NFL. I don’t know the details of it but it was something he wanted to add to his current contract.
This is now a great opportunity to drop football out of G5 All the players will be in the portal and poached. A visionary AD would be looking at how to join the MVC as a full member and play football at whatever level the MVC plays it at. Force Toledo to make a Mountain West football decision and stop the madness it is to be a G5 football school in this environment.
