vs. Lake Superior State (2/28-3/1)
This weekend, our Falcons (15-12-4) will host Lake Superior State (11-19-2) in the final regular season series of the year. Both games will begin at 7:07pm at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
I just realized that the computer version of the CCHA website actually shows points, whereas the mobile version doesn’t, and that has made “doing the math” much easier. There are multiple scenarios where we can get home ice out of the weekend, but the easiest way is to get 3 points or more. Michigan Tech and St. Thomas are playing each other, and Bemidji is playing Minnesota State, so the teams around us are going to be battling to split points. Where we have the edge is that we aren’t playing a team near us in the standings. If we get 3 points, Bemidji cannot catch us, and both Tech AND St. Thomas can’t finish ahead of us unless there was a sweep, leaving the other behind. So, if we get 3 this weekend, we’ll lock up home ice in the first round. We absolutely still have a path to 3rd, as well. There is a lot left to play for.
LSSU is 3-12-1 since the final series they played in December. They are playing some pretty brutal hockey the past 2 months, including BG going into their building and sweeping them 3-0 and 3-1. It’s imperative that we take control of this series and get ourselves some momentum heading into the CCHA playoffs.
NOTABLE STATS:
Goals Per Game: BG 2.42 (7th), LSSU 2.59 (5th)
Goals Allowed Per Game: BG 2.39 (3rd), LSSU 3.13 (7th)
Shots on Goal Per Game: BG 33.58 (1st), LSSU 29.47 (4th)
Power Play Percentage: BG .204 (5th), LSSU ..197 (6th)
Penalty Kill Percentage: BG .802 (3rd), LSSU .794 (5th)
Face-off Percentage: BG .529 (1st), LSSU .511 (3rd)
Blocked Shots Per Game: BG 9.74 (9th), LSSU 9.84 (8th)
GOALIE STATS:
LSSU
Rorke Applebee (Fr.) - 28 GP, 2.90 GAA, .908 SV%
BGSU
Christian Stoever (Sr.) - 13 GP, 1.70 GAA, .948 SV%
Cole Moore (So.) - 20 GP, 2.80 GAA, .906 SV%
Go Falcons! Beat LSSU!

I asked them to do that early in the season. It took them about a week but they obliged. You have to go to the detailed standings page, it's not on the summary standings they show on the home page.

Really disappointing stretch of hockey late this year. We are so much better than most of the teams in this league, but we let ourselves lose to bad teams. It’s maddening.
Not saying this game is over (it’s 3-2 them early in the 2nd) but man. We’re being badly outshot and crushed in the faceoff circle, both things we’re supposed to be the best in the league at. What gives?

Another frustrating loss. Maybe being on the road in the first round is good, can’t seem to win important games at home.

Lake State dressed and played a player not on the line chart.
Tieing goal (at 3) disallowed due to "goaltender interference." Apparently, BG player looked at the goalie funny before the puck crossed the line.

Re: vs. Lake Superior State (2/28-3/1)
They went on that winning streak because Stoever was standing on his head, not because they got any better at scoring.
Since his injury the goaltending has been average and they still score the same 2’ish goals a game. Thus those wins are now becoming loses.
This team is going nowhere this year as they just can’t score enough goals to be a consistent winner.
Hopefully Williams can bring in some offensive talent and finally turn this program around.

There was no replay in the Slate. It appeared it did not take the refs long to overturn the goal. So, for those who had replay, was it really interference?

Tech loses so we’re now in 5th. A week ago we were looking at second. Tough way to finish.

Martin hit the goalie's stick before the puck went behind the net. Plenty of time without affecting his ability to stop the puck, but the goalie didn't hold onto his stick.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 3:31 amThere was no replay in the Slate. I love Willy’s quote in the post gamer…..” I’ll have to check my unofficial score sheet here”. Classic.
So I guess, as coach said, there is no official lineup in the CCHA apparently now , so I guess he can sub guys in between periods now…..lol.
Leadership of the league is a joke.

Re: vs. Lake Superior State (2/28-3/1)
It's about to get real interesting. The NCAA defines the official score sheet, with the lineup of eligible players, as being what the scorers table has. If the player was not on the sheet at the scorers table, it's a bench minor penalty, whether it was intentional or not. After the game, if it is determined by the "proper administrative authorities" that it was intentional, the game is a forfeiture. (Section 2, Rule 7)AZIce wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 6:14 am I love Willy’s quote in the post gamer…..” I’ll have to check my unofficial score sheet here”. Classic.

The NCAA rulebook found on the CCHA website is for 22-23 and 23-24. Rule is found on page 17. The 20-21 and 21-22 rulebook has the exact same rule, verbatim, and still Section 2, Rule 7, but it is on page 20.

Frustrating finish to the season, but they have another chance tonight. Let’s get it.

So did they remove the penalty for pushing a dropped stick out of the way this season? Has not been called all season and has happened a handful of times
