It would be crazy to have Mike Jacobs and Todd Simon at the same time. No other school in the country could match those two bellies.

I am being told that a decision and announcement regarding the next head football coach is expected before the MAC Basketball tournament which begins March 12th. DVDM and Co. want to get it squared away before heading to Cleveland.

FootballScoop reported the same, either by the end of this week or early next week.

You have to assume that Jacobs wasn't one of the top candidates. I don't think he chooses Mercer over BG

What happens in these situations is that coaches get raises based on interest.

My hope is that we are going to talk to Brian Wright and Clint Killough.

I am not feeling confident that we are going to make a good choice this time around. Jacobs to me was the clear choice. Ohio ties, tons fo winning. DC was Jhamal Brown. If you can't make the push to pull him out of Georgia we shouldn't be playing at this level.

My guess is Friday during the day so that it can be a talking point at basketball and hockey over the weekend.

No way to Dino. Neal Brown? I'd be interested, but he's already in talks to join the staff at Texas and I'm sure it would be for at least double what we could offer.
BG '10

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I just can't imagine hiring one of these power 4 assistants with no head coaching experience. Especially for a meh team. What in the world are we thinking

Tough to gauge what DVDM will be thinking...Simon was an experienced HC, Chmiel wasn't.

He could go either way...

Chmiel was the top assistant on the best team in the country

We are talking about hiring a TEs coach from Kentucky or a DBs coach from Minnesota.

Beggars can't be choosers. You're in the worst conference of FBS trying to find a coach in early March. Expectations need to be greatly tempered.

Given our budget constraints and inability to ever find buyout money I would rather promote within for a single season of interim head coach than hire from a limited pool at a weird time in the hiring cycle.

Are the current assistant coaches well seasoned themselves? Would you need interim?
