Re: Eddie George hired
An interesting hire...to say the least
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Eddie George hired
Given the circumstances and timing, this has to be viewed as a monumental hire. He’s a college football hall of famer as a player, he has a Heisman to his name, he’s been pretty successful in his limited time (4 years) as a head coach at the FCS level turning around a program, and he’s going to be able to recruit like crazy here, given his name recognition in the area.
I still have low expectations for this fall because of the turnover on the roster, but I absolutely think he’s the type of guy who can and will win here. I can’t believe just how much this feels like a celebrity coming to town. Our head coach was in Heisman House commercials, man. Lol

From an engagement and fundraising perspective it'll definitely be a boost. I think it's the kind of hire you need to be making in today's climate. Kids will want to play for him. Parents will want their kids to play for him. He's a recognized figure nationally.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:56 am Given the circumstances and timing, this has to be viewed as a monumental hire. Not too familiar with his X's and O's, so might need to dig up some TSU games today and do some research.

Agreed Jeremy. I think this is a great hire and will get kids interested in BG simply for who Eddie George is. How well he does, obviously, still to see but he's a very likable guy and knows Ohio BiG time. I like this.
Re: Eddie George hired
Given the stage of the cycle we’re in, I’d say this is about as good of a hire DVDM could have possibly made. Head coaching experience, track record for program building, name recognition, knowledge of the region. Did not think we’d check off all those boxes. Exciting hire, for sure.

Where I'm at 100% I know nothing of his Xs & Os, but everything else about this screams HR. Successful at FCS which is always my prerequisite for a candidate. Throw in the fact that he's Eddie George and you've got more NIL cache than any coach in the MAC. He's a revered OSU legend, and we all know most BG fans care more about OSU than BG anyhow. Leverage that.
If he can bring a watchable competent modern offense to BG this has a chance to be brilliant. He's not likely to stick long but I don't care. He's got a better resume in 4 yrs than Loeffler has in 20.

Five-year deal according to Pete Thamel. No details on compensation, buyout, etc.

His coaching staff is littered with names you know Clyde Simmons, Mark Chmura son, Joe Bowden, Keith Burns....even Jeff Fisher in a mysterious role.

Re: Eddie George hired
I didnt realized they played their home games in Nissan stadium and he got to live in Nashville, that will be a huge change
This is probably their best QB who was returning. Memphis transfer, would be a redshirt Jr. They had a Grad QB last year who was good.

Three-star quarterback by Rivals...also ranked the 20th best pro-style quarterback in the nation and the 17th ranked player in the state...Three-star prospect and No. 600 overall recruit by 247Sports...Ranked the 370th-best recruit in the region by ESPN...QB Elite 11 finalist with 24 college offers...Selected for AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star game...Finished HS career with 2,204 passing yards and 29 touchdowns...Three-time All-State
If we could have a room of Kitna, Anderson, Carter and Lamson all battling it out that's a fun offseason.

Have to imagine this will hopefully keep most of the current roster and the incoming recruiting class together. All eyes will be on the portal though following spring ball to see who's in or out.
