CCHA Pick ‘Em 2024-25: 8.5 Teams This Year!

We got us a nice little contest going. Critical Thinker leads the way with 21 points (and got hosed in his matchup, losing only because he was the lower seed) with a 3-way tie for second including Footballguy51 who scored a whopping 12 points in the second round! I'm in last. Penance for winning the league I guess.

I am in. I don't visit this site much anymore, hence the usual Wednesday or Thursday picks. I am tired of the constant coach bashing and complaining that this site has been reduced to. I am down to only reading the hockey threads as Willy is still in his grace period.

Well, my web server is down and I'm not back to reboot it until this afternoon so no updates on the Pick 'Em (short version...no AZZ-ers made it to the championship match). But here's an update on our contest. And, yeah, it's all but over. By picking with his head instead of his heart Critical Thinker is kicking our collective asses. The only way someone catches him is a) he doesn't submit a form and someone gets 8 out of 9 points or b) he submits a form, gets 0 or 1 point, and someone gets 8 or 9 out of 9. I know Hockey John and I aren't up to the challenge.

Quarterfinal results are in and there a couple of upsets including our current Cinderella story, #19 PokeCheck taking down #6 puckdude40 by a score of 6-2. The other upset saw #5 giwan over #4 mbenecke by a score of 7-2. The other two winners were MTUHuskyGold ending BillyLP's run for the roses 7-2 and #8 Icd80 finishing off #15 John J. MacInnes by a score of 8-6.

Semifinal matchups are: MTUHuskyGold vs. giwan and Icd80 vs. crowd favorite and Cinderella story PokeCheck.

And now for the semifinal results! By identical scores of 7-6, #9 MTUHuskyGold outlasted #5 giwan and #19 PokeCheck's Cinderella run came to an end at the hands of #7 Icd80.

After 4,864 games picked through the course of the season, the championship match for the Mason Cup comes down to MTUHuskyGold vs. Icd80. The link is below, you know what to do...good luck!

Here's what I just posted on the USCHO site:

Aaaaaaaallllllllrighty then! The stage is set, the band starts playin', suddenly your heart is pounding! We have our championship entries in, now we wait for the puck to drop.

Good luck to #7 Icd80 and #9 MTUHuskyGold. To build suspense, I will share the picks after tonight's game.

Turns out these final two contestants entered the exact same picks 2/4/0/0 so we already know the winner is Icd80 by virtue of the higher seed winning the tie. What an anticlimactic end to the pick 'em season.

What a final match! Both contestants maxed out the final score with 9 points as each picked a 4-2 Maverick win. WOW! With that said, our Mason Cup champion for the 2024-25 season is Icd80, so congratulations from all of us at Pick 'Em headquarters! Our hearts go out to MTUHuskyGold who stood tall throughout the entire tournament. There's not much to say other than great run.

As for our little side contest, congrats go out to Critical Thinker for winning it all. Also, stick taps to Footballguy51 who, like the Mason Cup finalists, maxed out at 9 points (see, you really are good at this).
