Overly Ambitious Soccer Schedule?

Post by JoeFalcon »

It looks like a pretty brutal slate of teams for a program in a rebuilding phase.

I'd rather have some more reasonable competition during the formative stages of the program and add the better teams once a couple recruiting classes have come through and the team is totally Coach Thompson's in terms of style of play and personnel.

Well, they probably are limited by the number of teams they can play, and still not travel far. All of the games/tournaments are in Ohio. Second it is spring season, so best to get beat and see what you need to improve. Just as long as they don't get asked to skip a game by Michigan so they can play Ohio instead. I played water polo for BG (club) and went to a tournement against OSU, UM, Purdue and Northwestern, needless to say, I swam a lot without much scoring. The kicker was, UM asked us to forefit so they could play Ohio, and practice for another tournament. We didn't and enjoyed getting our asses kicked just to piss them off.

Not that this means a whole lot to BG's immediate soccer future on the men's side, unless we see an surprising turnaround. The exit of UK and Marshall from the MAC leaves the conference with five members, Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Western Michigan and NIU. For the time being, the NCAA is giving the MAC a two-year grace period to retain its automatic bid for the MAC Tournament Champion to go to the NCAA Championships. My guess is the MAC would be very interested in Temple's and WKU's soccer programs.

Your welcome I guess  . Try looking at the dates sometime on that spring schedule and let me know which one you can make. Perhaps McMetz can hook you up getting to these games when he gets those dorm room pictures.
