MAC TOURNAMENT (3/13-15)

Post by mbenecke »

On Thursday, March 13, our Falcons (14-17, 8-10 MAC) head to Cleveland to begin their MAC tournament journey against the #1 seed Akron Zips (25-6, 17-1 MAC). We play in the first game of the day, at 11:00am on ESPN+.

With a win, we would play the winner of Toledo (17-14, 10-8 MAC) vs. Ohio (16-15, 10-8 MAC) on Friday at 5:00pm on CBSSN.

With a win in the semifinals, we would play for a MAC championship on Saturday at 7:30pm on ESPN2.

We aren’t very likely to go on a run, given everything that has happened this year and being down 3 starters… but can’t we dream?

Why not us? Go Falcons!

This is a team we've hung with and a team that got boat-raced by Ohio. This is a very tough draw, but it's not impossible.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

The thing that gnaws on me all the time is we are 5-36 against UA in the last 20 years. No matter what we do, they always win and usually a close game.

But maybe we can start the pendulum swinging the other way. I mean, it has to stop sometime, right??

Exactly. We've been playing good ball and have nothing to lose. Why not us?? Get hot and anything can happen.

Let's Falcon Go...

Ugly early but our guys at least play hard. We just don’t have enough players to match up.

21-8 deficit. Not looking good. All Akron's points are 3 pointers.

Akron has taken 11 shots, all of them three pointers and made 7 of them. We look like the Washington Generals out there. Oof

This game is crazy so far. I don't think they can keep up that pace of making 3's, but I could be wrong.

BG is down 12 at halftime. AKron is shooting 11/21 from three. Care to guard ANYONE on the perimeter, guys?

Also, BG got back into it by pounding the ball in the paint. Makes you wonder how we'd be playing if Yoyo and Towns were healthy this year, since that's their weakness.

We are simply undermanned and apparently left our shooting abilities in BG. Also, Akron is very creative in getting away with moving screens. You can tell they are actually well coached. All five players are toeing the line of fouling at all times. If officials got whistle happy they would be dead in the water but the best teams know how to ride that line.

Marcus Johnson is careless with the basketball.

The refs will not call ANYTHING. Akron can be as physical as they want.

Officiating has jumped the shark. No way we can climb back in it with them mauling us and we can’t touch them.

We have to end this MAC tournament drought, man. It's pathetic. It's statistically impossible. We have won one single MAC tournament game since 2019. That will be 1 win in 7 years when next March rolls around. It's the saddest thing about our athletic department right now.

Assemble an all-star team with NIL and just go break through. I don't have to like the players, they don't have to be perfect Literally just win one, any means necessary.

Akron is a tougher program…their facilities are below avg, but they recruit tough kids and coach them hard. BG hasn’t really been tough team since Dakich…Jan’s would’ve got them there. Akron almost always just out competes BG…
