Where Are They Now and Was the Grass Greener

Post by fredthefalcon »

Had some time after this forgetful season to research how the six portal transfers from BG did this year. Only one of the six went to a team that had a winning record this year and that was one of the most unlikely of the six. DJ Smith who barely played at BG mostly because of injury went to Robert Morris who finished at 26-8. He averaged 9 ppg and 3.1 assists and shot 39% from 3. He is playing this week in the NCAA Tourney. The two big BG Roster losses had OK seasons but on Power Conference teams that disappointed and had losing seasons but they likely profited nicely in NIL. Marcus Hill led NC State in scoring at 11.6 ppg down significantly from his BG season and the team was 12-19 with the coach being fired at the end. Rashaun Agee had the 5th most minutes for an underperforming USC team which also had a losing record. Agee average 8.5 ppg and 4.3 rebounds a game. Similar to Hill's year in success on the court and in the pocketbook. Ejay Greer who would have benefited greatly by staying one more year with Simon played only nine games at Alabama A&M. Didn't find anywhere if he was hurt or otherwise. He averaged 5.2 ppg and 2.4 rpg in those 9 games for a 10-22 team. PJ Edwards actually played for a team in the same league --Grambling State which was 12-22. Edwards averaged 4.7 ppg and 2.2 rpg. Surprisingly, the player of this group who had the highest scoring average was Anthony McComb III who averaged nearly 13 ppg for a New Hampshire team that like the previous two transferees had a horrendous record of 8-24. So DJ Smith is the only player that both performed better than when they were with BG and additionally played for a winning team.

To be fair it would be nearly impossible for either Agee or Hill to perform better than they did at BGSU in usage alone. The usage they got at BGSU would never be duplicated. Agee is supposed to play again at USC next year, and has developed a 3 point shot. He should have better numbers in 25-26.

His averages are also deceiving because he increasingly got more minutes in the back half of the season and ended up becoming a fan favorite.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.
