I'm still worried, but as you say, we'll wait and see. Maybe it's Atlantic though why would they want Lindenwood over LIU in a cost containment league.

RIT Head Coach and BGSU National Champion Wayne Wilson has announced his retirement.
Hoping he can find his way over to the Slate this year so we can recognize him as a Falcon instead of an opponent.

RIT is hiring RIT alumnus and former Anchorage head coach Matt Thomas as their next head coach.

RIT alum Matt Thomas is replacing him, according to Mike McMahon.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 2:44 pmhttps://ritathletics.com/news/2025/4/9/ ... ement.aspx

Maybe they're anticipating Mankato going independent? Odd number of teams sucks. 8 teams is about optimal for scheduling.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 1:43 pmPerry Laskaris from the league office commented on this situation: "I wouldn't worry."jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 1:30 pm Post from a person connected to Lindenwood on X that a conference was poking around campus and speaking with the team on Tuesday. I've always thought this. BG + 7 others means you can play home/home with everyone if you play 28 league games. Perfect split.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 8:51 amMaybe they're anticipating Mankato going independent? Re: Off-season 2025
With a 34 game limit, 28 conference is too many, especially for the CCHA. There's no room for error if you want a chance for an at large bid. The out of conference schedule would only be 6 games. If 4 of those are taken by a combination of of OSU, Western, and Miami, that's 2 left looking east, where there's 3 conferences.
If it were me, I'd be calling Western and trying to setup something East. A UMass and Lowell trip, playing one game at each, followed by a return trip the followping year. Thinking WAY back, BG has done that a couple times. St Lawerence and Union come to mind. I think Clarkson and RPI were another, Colgate may have been involved somewhere in there too. I may even remember a time when BC and BU played back to back nights in BG and Ann Arbor.
Next season, 8 out of conference games. Gotta think 2 with OSU, 2 with Western and/or Miami. Willy said something about 2 with Princeton being in there also. Probably 2 against RIT, Mercyhurst, or Bobby Mo. As much as Willy likes games, I wouldn't be surprised to see an Alaska trip also for the exemption.

Re: Off-season 2025
Willy said Miami State is definitely back on the schedule for next year which I hope doesn't mean we just killed the Western series. He wants a schedule focused on teams that a) fans want to see in the Slate and b) recruits want to play against, with B1G teams in general being mentioned. I assume that means fewer games against AHA teams. I'd like to start doing the UMass thing but I don't know if they want to travel out here.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:53 amWith a 34 game limit, 28 conference is too many, especially for the CCHA. Re: Off-season 2025
On the USCHO boards, it sounded like the Notre Dame series for WMU may have replaced us series with them, at least this year.
I think it's plausible that our non-conference will look something like:
vs./@ Ohio State
vs./@ Miami
Princeton (home or away? Not sure)
vs./@ Robert Morris or Mercyhurst

Pretty sure Western released their schedule last season with both both BG and Ferris on it, on the same nights. Then all 3 schools had to back track.mbenecke wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 11:54 am On the USCHO boards, it sounded like the Notre Dame series for WMU may have replaced us series with them, at least this year.

Don't look now, but BG was as good as the national runner-up this season.

Bemidji State's Day of Giving netted just over $24k for hockey (goal was $30k).

Re: Off-season 2025
Ferschweiler's comments about support and resources from the WMU administration needs to reverberate today with BG's brass. It's frustrating to see a school on equal footing with BG in football and basketball absolutely kill it in hockey. It's the model BG needs to strive to mimic. Football and basketball are such a lost cause.

D Rihards Simanovics has committed to BG from the portal. Latvian defenseman comes north from Miami, where he appeared in 63 games the past 2 seasons. Big body - 6’3, 205.
