Some more potential news regarding this program and possibly the Frack money being used... I was told in a Zoom meeting that the NIL budget is now between $200K & $300K. Their top target in the transfer portal is from the Detroit area and played for a Division 1 school in North Carolina for the past two years.

Great news. Try to convince them to set up basketball specific collective separate from football and outside the Learfield bubble. Money is tight no need to gift Learfield any additional.bghkyfan74 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 9:50 pm Some more potential news regarding this program and possibly the Frack money being used... Holy s**t! And now there are rumors that Coach George is doing this exact thing with football.Warthog wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 7:59 am Given the insanity that NIL and instant transfers has created, how about this insane idea.
Why don't we just sign a developmental contract with an OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, any school with a crap ton on NIL money. Then we work together with those school(s) where they make commitments to kids for big NIL dollars in a year or two down the road if they develop their skills at BG. With the reality that any kid that develops his skills here isn't sticking around anyway, why not fully embrace that and try to get some bigger potential stars to take a year here instead of redshirting at a bigger school.

I know, its BarStool, but the author of the story grew up in BG.

He has eligibility? Even with the COVID year, that doesn't add up.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I don't get it either. He's played 5 full seasons counting the COVID year.

On the bright side, I think we all assumed he was out of eligibility anyway and had no expectation of his return when looking at roster projections.
If we actually have a budget of 200-300k this season, I'm starting to be less concerned about how things fall together. Simon is a good recruiter and has a great pitch on coming here to have a solid year and then securing a bag. Throw 50k at a big, a forward, and a guard and then fill out the rest. We have the wealth in our alumni to have a legit NIL budget, we are just painfully late to the game in securing it.

While we certainly have an alumni base that has money to make a meaningful impact on MAC athletic budgets, we've never done a great job of building the connection from students to the athletics. I think that's the brilliance in what DVDM has been efforting (and Dakich/Urban as examples previously).BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 12:34 pmOn the bright side, I think we all assumed he was out of eligibility anyway and had no expectation of his return when looking at roster projections.

IT doesn't matter how much money our graduates make as adults if they would rather watch OSU play they're not donating it to BGSU.
Look no further than this site, or the facebook group, etc...there are seemingly less than 100 people that want to spend any time discussing BGSU athletics, even in season during game threads. If there is no connection and no fan engagement, there will be no money.
Re: 2025 Basketball Portal
Christopher, Kingston, Moose. There's no confidence from donors that their donations will be used as intended. DVDM is working his ass off to repair that trust.

Go back to the original stages of “NIL” back in 2021. It was the beginning of the end of NCAA control. BGSU told athletes they couldn’t use logos in NIL for multiple years. The last update to the NIL policy was made in August of 2021 aka the original policy.

A few hundred things have changed since then. On one occasion Hughes attempted to contact the local media to try to essentially kill a NIL story from airing. It wasn’t just non existent, they were fighting it. It was a clown show for control. No accountability.

Yoyo’s representation announced today that he’s agreed to a deal to return to BG for next season. So count Khayat in.
