Assistant Hockey Coach

Post by dforde »

I see an add on the BGSU web site and on national education jobs pages advertising an Asst. Hockey Coach here. Is one of the current coaches leaving?

I've actually been thinking with Elsasser retiring, is it possible an assistant gets his job and Willy can bring in his own assistant?

It's Paskaris.

Per McMahon, "Bowling Green assistant coach Stavros Paskaris resigned from the program a few weeks ago."

Pipe dream for sure, my year of club coaching 16 years ago probably holds no water any longer lol.

But in all honesty, it's a crap shoot trying to speculate on assistant coaches.

I heard Mass' name thrown about at the time of Willy's hiring, but he's in the AHL now and he's a defensive coach which doesn't mesh with Carr who I thought was also coaching defense.

That would be a hell of a pay cut.

If we're getting players from the CHL, I'd look towards the CHL, specifically with WHL experience.

Michael Field, longtime ASU assistant, was on Willy's bench for a short period of time. Still with Everett.

This was the name that came to mind for me. That is, assuming he wants to keep coaching (he's 65) and he isn't retained at RIT.

Obviously played here. And was an assistant here when Willy played.

“Mike comes with a great amount of praise and recognition from his peers,” noted Silvertips general manager/head coach Dennis Williams. “His body of work at the college level and in the USHL really shows his experience in dealing with this age of athlete and getting them developed for the National Hockey League. I know our players will benefit from his teaching and his knowledge."

Harry Mahood was a forward as a player, and he was an assistant for Willy in Amarillo, Bloomington, and Everrett. He's currently the president of hockey operations for the NAHL's Amarillo Wranglers.

I could see that one, given the familiarity/loyalty to Coach Williams.
