WR Austin Clay has committed to BG out of the portal. He was a longtime BG commit and then flipped late to Michigan State.

Two really good pickups. I was excited about Clay back when I thought he was coming here, and I know WF fans were really high on Hines. Unsure why he didn’t get more P5 attention in the portal, but his talent has a very high ceiling.

Guessing this is a PWO based on his offers coming out of high school. Pretty sure he was a walk-on at WSU.

Officially signed today, however he is listed as a fullback.

Could be recency bias, but this seems to be one of our strongest years in the portal so far, right? I'm including the Loeffler staff gets with the George staff here. Several former 4-star recruits, lots of P5 experience, successful FCS folks. Saw a blind stats comparison that showed how well Pyne actually played compared to a lot of other P5 starters and how a lot of his criticism was much stronger than warranted. I expected a step back this season, but now I'm intrigued by the potential.

We're were in the mix for a huge DT in 325-lbs Pius Odjugo from CMU. He visited both BG and Ohio, but he just chose Ohio. He would have been a big (literally and figuratively) addition to the interior DL where BG suffered some significant losses (Hawkins, Brown, Miles). Plus remember, BG also lost DT Marcus Moore to Purdue in the second portal window after bringing him in to fill that need. BG is extremely thin with experience there. Branch-Hayes is the only guy who has seen any real action. White has hardly played and most every other guy at NT or 3-Tech is either a true or redshirt frosh. Odijugo would have been a much-needed get and would have mostly likely been a starter had he come. We really need to add someone here.

Depends on what scheme BG employs. If the new staff is keeping with the multiple 3-4 look that Loeffler did, shouldn't be an issue. Moving to a 4-3 will test some of the depth. I think they'll be fine either way, even if the DL overall appears a bit undersized on paper.

George said they'll be multiple on defense but ideally their plan is to use a 4-man front with an Anchor, NT, 3-Tech and a Buke (Rush). He said the Ends are George and Acheampong, Branch-Evans is the NT and White is the 3-Tech, which would be our 4-man front. When we use our Buck soley as an OLB, that puts George and Acheampon at #1 & #2 DE, Branch-Hayes and White stay the same, and two Memphis guys (Odom and Thomison) are slated to be our Bucks (Rush), as well as Bradley and Eklund. So Buck would have some depth. But Dillard and Booker are also Edges. And none of those combinations still solve our glaring need at both interior spots at NT & 3-Tech. It leaves red-shirt frosh Moses there with THREE true frosh and a walk-on (and George said he doesn't want to play any true frosh because they're nowhere near ready across the board- so that takes those three off the board anyway). This is why they wanted Odjugo but we lost him. One would think they're still going to bring another NT/DT or two in. We literally have to - because. we're one injury away from a total disaster on the interior line as it stands now. He said they want to go three deep to rotate and keep guys fresh because they're going to attack and won't be playing gaps, holding point and coming off blocks like they did under Loeffler.
GO BG!!!
