Re: vs. Lafayette (8/28)
Nice first win for Coach George and the 2025 team.
I’m really not one to troll - I hate it, but was it odd there was no Gatorade shower and especially no players that congratulated Coach or that he congratulated after the final whistle. At least I didn’t see any. I hope I’m wrong or that’s just the way Coach rolls.

Hopefully that was more of a trial game for our running backs and there's a bit more to our offense. Defense was much more impressive than I thought and tackled very well. Special teams was a big win with the kick returns and field goals. I'll always take a comfortable win.
Anyone know the longest made field goal in BG history? 56 can't be that far off and it had the leg for 60

I left late in the 4th quarter and Todd Walker said on the broadcast that the record is 60 in 1995 vs. Toledo. 56 tied the 2nd longest.

Postgame show on the radio said it tied for the 2nd longest. Apparently in '95 the kicker (can't remember the name) hit a 60 yarder.fanatic13 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 1:49 am Hopefully that was more of a trial game for our running backs and there's a bit more to our offense. Special Teams was amazing all around. Offense was pretty ugly. I get playing it close to the vest, but against a team like Lafayette I would've hoped to see them dominate a bit more on those 40 carries. Defense was pretty solid.
Easy win. Take it, learn from it, and hopefully there's more to this offense than we saw tonight.

Very encouraged by the defense. Feels like we’ve got room and potential to improve on both sides of the ball.
Happy to get out with an easy win against an FCS team - that hasn’t always been the case in the past 10 years.
Get a quick rest and then go prep your asses off to compete with Cincinnati next week.

Workmanlike win. Defense looked good. We'll see just how good we are next week in Cincinnati.

I looked it up...Derek Schorejs hit a 60 yd FG against the Rockettes in 1995

Bearcats lost a heartbreaker to Nebraska. Sorsby will be an issue as he can create with his legs. Certainly be a good test for the defense.JD-Class of 90' wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 2:52 am Workmanlike win. Defense looked good. We'll see just how good we are next week in Cincinnati.

Re: vs. Lafayette (8/28)
After sleeping on it, a little bit of doubt about the offense has crept in. Not dramatically, they should be able to compete in the MAC, but I think the lack of explosive plays and only scoring one single offensive TD against an FCS opponent is a bit concerning. We need to be able to break a few long ones, and we didn't show that ability yesterday. Need to find a way to throw the ball over the top, and that may come once we can better establish the run - I was underwhelmed by our performance up front last night. Felt like a lot of our runs were only going for 2 or 3 yards, which isn't a winning recipe. Lots of time to improve, and I know Eddie basically said they ran a vanilla gameplan in his postgame presser, but I want to see a bit of a jump moving forward.
Felt pretty good about the defense, though. The tackling in space really impressed me, and we honestly had a pretty strong defensive performance. I'm excited to see that group evolve over the course of the season as they gain experience - it seemed like the defensive line wore down over time, but that's something that can get better as the year progresses.

Re: vs. Lafayette (8/28)
It’s tough to grade the offense because I think the playbook was really scaled back for this one. If that’s the play calling we’ll see this year…. woof because they weren’t even creative in the run game
I do think Pyne looked pretty bad and there were a few times he just didn’t sense the pressure well enough. He was hurt in spring camp so I’m just gonna chalk it up to rust for now. I’ll be a little more confident in judging the offense after the UC game, that defense should be a legit challenge and if we look just as lethargic, could be a tough season with Liberty, @ Louisville, @ Ohio, and Toledo as our next 4 games

The opening kickoff return and Pudge was SVP's "The Best Thing I Saw Tonight", referencing back to Pegues opening kick return last year.
