No, no. You misunderstand me. Dented mellophones in and of themselves aren't funny. It was just that we were all getting lined up for halftime, when one of the mellos came up to their section leader with a stricken expression. The bell had been hit by a football and was actually inverted on one side... Brian's eyes got about as big as dinner plates, and he and several other mellos got in a little huddle around it to try and fix it... Just then, I believe, Ryan Nowlin walked by, and they all immediately pretended they weren't doing what they were doing, hid the mellophone behind them, and assumed extremely innocent demeanors.
It was just the expressions on their faces that were hilarious.
(Charles, did I get the story right?)

Of course I kept waiting for the football to land in a Sousa bell, or for it to shove someones mp down their throat.

I had to duck a LOT further than any other marcher, let me tell you.ZiggyZoomba wrote: Why did you have to bring THAT back up?? Good thing you ducked that goal post or you might not BE here to bring that up, Mark!
I still remember trying to tell those Miami gents not to throw the apples from the back of the truck. I was thinking someone was going to get a Washington right in the kisser. They were only throwing them at the tubas and percussion. Once I thought it through, I didn't believe a strike to the head would harm any of the individuals in those two groups.

Alright.... I guess I'll let you off the hook on that one.FliccGirl wrote:It was just the expressions on their faces that were hilarious.
I wondered about that seating arrangement, looks like an occupational hazard! Kinda like the trombone player that gets creamed at the end of the lateral play of that Cal/Stanford game! Eesh...

Yes, We are on the 50. We aren't called the Rowdiest band for nothing! FLIP FOLDER?! BLASPHEMY! MEMORIZE!!!!! Though the dented Mellos would be HILARIOUS.FliccGirl wrote:You guys sit on the fifty??![]()
I miss having seats on the side, but the endzone is really the best place for the band because then everyone can hear us. I'll be happier with it once they put real stands in the endzone so we don't have to send the truck crew under the bleachers every five minutes because "I dropped my hat!" "I dropped a water bottle!" "My flip folder fell!"
And maybe they'll put up a net this year. No more dented mellophones. (Dang, that was funny though.)
You know your in Miami's band, when you can holler at the other team... "PHOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!"(when the field phone rings...) And they ACTUALLY have to move away, and or plug their ears. hehe. You'll see next year

Dude, relax, they only use the flip folders for stand tunes. NEVER on the field. Which, I may add, is more difficult when you perform more than two shows a season.MiamiBando wrote: FLIP FOLDER?! BLASPHEMY! MEMORIZE!!!!!
Note my strategic use of the word "they". My lovely, adorable, talented, super-amazing section doesn't bring folders to the stadium at all.
