If horror stories means having a coach that will challenge players and not be their best friend, all for it. Not questioning your source, but having gone to high school with Kate and knowing her & family pretty well, I cannot fathom her being someone personality wise that would rub people the wrong way.bghkyfan74 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 1:16 pm I have a close source to the team that has provided me with some intel over the past 6 or so years.
To the point made about the assistants doing very little in the game… they really aren’t “allowed” to.
To the point on Achter which my source has reiterated many times… that roster requested that Achter not be selected as they had horror stories from players that played for her.
Rumors suggest that Donehue is leaving after this year. I am sure that won’t be the only one.

People getting salty over Pudge confuses me...he's the biggest marketing windfall this University has seen in the 45 years I've been around BGSU.
He went viral...the story is unique and really hits home with Gen Z...many of whom are obsessed with cats. Hate on it if you choose...but It's a 100% net positive for the University.
Re Kate Achter...I think she would have been a great hire, whatever personal beefs there may have been with players. Find me a coach who doesn't have some of that in their background.
I was optimistic when they hired Chmiel...not looking like it's going to work here now

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Agree with all of this. Look at the EMU Maccoon thing after a random post about Maction went viral in the offseason. Regardless of the state of the program, you have to take advantage of marketing opportunities. BG Athletics and BG NIL has seen financial gains because of it (north of six-figures, I have heard), as ridiculous as it may be. Hell, the Asst. AD responsible for the marketing push has already moved on to a bigger role at the Air Force Academy.Flipper wrote: ↑Mon Nov 24, 2025 3:05 pm People getting salty over Pudge confuses me...he's the biggest marketing windfall this University has seen in the 45 years I've been around BGSU.

I was also in the pro-Achter camp given her track record, but was happy with Chmiel, even though my first comment was that I was hoping to get someone who was already a head coach. He checked all the right boxes, and had one of the best coaches of all time vouching for him. Just isn't working out.

Those ripping on Pudge aren't serious BGSU supporters - their saltiness driven by a negative personal experience and/or an axe to grind with the athletic department and university by extension (I have my theories). My significant other found out she can further her criminal justice degree online at BG due to Pudge mania and curiosity about the school, so it has obviously worked.Flipper wrote: ↑Mon Nov 24, 2025 3:05 pm People getting salty over Pudge confuses me...he's the biggest marketing windfall this University has seen in the 45 years I've been around BGSU.
