Come on now, Archie Griffin is way too old to be coaching.
Fair point, I guess I was thinking way too much about the impressions it might get.
I am mostly with you on being annoyed that tweets sometimes feel like THE focus, but we have to admit that they have undeniably increased interest in the program. 111,335 people at the Doyt this year was the most in at least 18 years. 38.9% increase in attendance year over year.

Like, I'd like to win too. But this "fluff" stuff is also part of building a program. And there's no doubt they are crushing this part of the job.

4 Saturday home games and a pick your day to avoid labor day weekend home game. The first Toledo Saturday home game since 2019. That's what you hire Eddie George for not for the X's and O's clearly. Then the Buffalo crowd is the reality if you don't win. Clicks are clicks. Likes are likes. Winning is worth way more than both.

It's not fluff. It's a coerced marketing campaign to get people invested in BG football. Come to a game, hopefully enjoy the experience, cultivate that relationship, and then get enough people wanting to get involved with NIL fundraising. No different than professional franchises hitting you up to become a season ticket holder if you buy seats to a single game off Ticketmaster. There's been so much complaining about this on this board for years, now it's working, so it's time to bitch about something else. Anything to support a narrative I guess.

You don't think anything BGSU athletics does is good, so why change now? Curmudgeon - better yet - curPUDGEon.

guest, for real, is there anything about BG athletics that you actually do like? I would love to hear some positive thoughts, if you have any.

Given the circumstances in the program when he arrived...i think it's waaaay to early to make that call.

True, I generally find humor in a lot of guests posts but this is way too early. SL left because he knew had nothing going forward and his ceiling was maxed. You can talk about SL all you want though. Last year’s team going 7-6 is probably the biggest underachievement I’ve seen I started going to BG. Harold Fannin alone was worth 7 wins

And where is my boy 33?

11 zillion posts from this guy in 25 years and nothing lately. Weird.

I do think Todd Simon is a really really good coach. He is a John Groce landing a bigger job away from having a real chance to get BGSU over the hump. But with Groce and the money Akron has in NIL, that's a huge hurdle.

I'm VERY curious to see how this stuff fares next year.

I attended 2 games this year. First time in years. I did not at all enjoy the product on the field (fully understanding he was behind the 8 ball and it will take time, etc, I'm not saying fire the guy). Moreover, I don't know that they did much to improve the game day stuff that will keep people invested. The homecoming park was fun, couldn't ask for a more perfect weather day in fall in BG. But other than that, they still have really stupid rules divvying parking up into seemingly arbitrary sections that guarantees you cannot tailgate with your friends if you're not all similar Falconclub/seasonticket/etc status holders. Food truck options in the stadium come/go. Lines for both food trucks and stadium kiosks were ridiculous, meaning you need more options if you're getting people in the stadium. Kiosk concessions were the typical awful (hate to say it, but the polleyeyes sticks are damn near inedible. Sorry, it just doesn't work).

I applaud the department and George in selling the program and getting people to the Doyt. It was really cool to see the stadium full again, and I did have a good time. But the product on the field doesn't have me wanting to go back, and so many of the gameday experience things are the same complaints we've had for decades. I cannot help but worry that a lot of this was a once-in-a-lifetime organic viral cat video that could never be replicated and they missed their opportunity to hook folks (even people like me) into attending in the future.

In the real season at the Stroh I think Simon is a fantastic coach, and I think this year's team has a chance to make some real noise in the MAC, but the experience stuff continues to suck. I do love that blimp though.

This Ohio program continues to shine year-in and year-out, while owning BG in the process! Ohio has a winning culture and competes for championships, while BG is stuck in a decade of going nowhere, while blowing games to the likes of Kent State and having players arrested. Two programs that are polar opposites - and it’s not even close!!! And there’s a decade long of FACTS to prove it! BGSUCKS!!!!
Ohio has a winning culture, competes for championships, and has a pervert as a coach. The program is shining in complete chaos between alcohol in the office, extra marital affairs, and relationships with coeds.
