Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
Seems to be the NCAA is green lighting eligibility waivers for those thought to have exhausted it under the pretense of this lawsuit. Don't blame them given their record in court on a lot of these filings.

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
I thought everyone wanted to play for Eddie George?
Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
I’d imagine that almost none of the guys in the portal came to BG to play for Eddie. He didn’t get here til March, so unless they came in the spring window or later, they signed up for Loeffler’s staff and style.
We aren’t the only program in the country with players entering the portal. We’ll see how they get replaced when the window opens and we can start addressing roster holes, but we’re basically in a holding pattern right now. Can’t be prisoners of the moment.

Where is there a listing of portal activity? The only ones I've found is on 247 and On3, and they only have 6 or 7 players listed.
ROLL ALONG!!!

Kids are going to go where the money is anyways. Suggesting any player is going to stay because of a coach while there's an opportunity to make money is silly, money is always going to win.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 8:19 am I’d imagine that almost none of the guys in the portal came to BG to play for Eddie. Like always we'll see where these guys end up. Some may get come back if they don't get any offers. Others will probably chase the bag and get buried on the depth chart somewhere and never play. It's why playing football at this level is becoming more of a joke year after year.

A joke is exactly what it's become. As a fan base at this level, the best we can hope for is a single flash in the pan year where we hit the right combination of portal players and some young recruits that mesh together and win a league title..........then if that happens we see all the best players and the coaches immediately leave for a paycheck somewhere else and somebody new comes in and tries to put a team back together out of the ashes. No ability to build a stable, successful program for the long term.
With the way this system is set up now to crush the "have nots", it's less and less likely to see a loyal fan base that sticks around between the "good" years. I guess that's part of the plan to kill off the lesser leagues...........make sure their fan bases wither away and the programs will eventually follow.

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
So the question becomes how long you going to continue to throw money at it? They aren’t going to admit that in order to pay the players the administration and staff would need to take pay cuts to offset even a portion of that. How long until the student fees become a not acceptable form of funding for yearly football training for players to find avenues to other schools? How long should BGSU be waiting to “cash in” on Eddie George as coach? The actual budgets show no path.

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
Easy answer is as long as enrollment numbers support it, it'll be a viable option. Realist answer is the can keeps getting kicked down the field year over year until the P4 finally caves to private equity and breaks free from the NCAA. With the P4 increasing conference games the noose is already tightening. This level of football has already turned into a player development landscape for the haves. No one wants to be here if they don't have to be. Those who stick around will be doing so for the hope of getting that one good season to cash in on.guest44 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 1:17 pm So the question becomes how long you going to continue to throw money at it? Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
Outside the box thought here. Eddie calls up Ryan and proposes that he send his back benchers and not-quite-ready-for-prime time kids up here to get them some playing time. Ryan funds some/most/all the NIL and Eddie helps the kids "get it on film." Wash, rinse, repeat for next year. Since as you point out this is what all MAC (and CUSA, and MW, and SBC, and AAC, and PAC) schools are going to be relegated to anyway if they aren't already, may as well lean into it and plant the flag before Miami, Ohio, and Kent do.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 2:24 pmEasy answer is as long as enrollment numbers support it, it'll be a viable option.
