It’s because no one wants to play for BG. The program is beyond putrid and guys have been tons of guys leaving for the last few years and will continue to jump ship. This newest class that BG just signed, I’m willing to bet not a single guy will be at BG when their eligibility runs out. They’ll all be gone too, just like all the guys leaving now. You can’t even play them to stay at a school like BG.

GO BG!!!
Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
Toledo’s Braden Awls is in the portal. Former first team all-MAC guy. Nobody wants to play for Mike Jacobs!
(It’s ridiculous to think this way in modern college football. Guys chase the dollar the second they can. It’s not a program thing, it’s a system thing.)

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
I've been saying for years we needed to figure out a way to make football work because costs were soon going to make staying put unfeasible.
We're at that point..if not on the doorstep. Not sure what changes we can make...but something needs to be done.

RB Kaderris Roberts is in the portal. He’ll be entering his 6th year in college, and I didn’t realize he still had eligibility.

DB Keyon Washington is in the portal.

Fanatic 13 is in the portal
Good news is New Mexico had 70 new players this season and arguably should have been in their conference championship. If you get the right coach and players then it all works out as every school is dealing with half the team going to free agency every season

I'm sure it's a tough pill to swallow watching a cat be marketed 1000 times better than actual football players.

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
It's a perfect storm of leftover fallout from the coaching change, rumblings regarding some player disconnect with the new staff, some players not enjoying the new staff's culture approach, some concerns over how the incident at Ziggy's was handled. Coupled with the lack of a concentrated NIL program, it's hardly surprising.
We're going to have to wait and see what happens following the portal closing and who the staff brings in.

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
Well, well, well......the departures keep on coming and piling up! It is beyond clear that no one wants to play for BG anymore. And the guys who sign with BG - they become part of the mass exodus too. And this is all happening WITH Eddie George, a win over Toledo (that carries more weight than the MACC for some) and the ever-important national attention from a cat. It's laughable what has happened to and is happening to this once-proud program. With the departures just mentioned, the ENTIRE position of CB has now been wiped out with the exception of one scholarship player and two walk-ons. Cannon, McClendon, Johnson, Washington, Steed, Harris, Jarmon, Henry - all gone. The top Safeties and Nickel backs - also gone. Most of the WR position - gone. Key parts of the LB position - gone. Depth at DL and RB - gone. Top TE and Top OL - gone. Top kicker - gone. And don't forget - the portal window hasn't even opened yet. Plus, you also have to factor in all the guys who actually exhausted their eligibility who will be gone.
This program is going to have over 70 new faces on it next year (transfers and frosh). And before anyone wants to declare how it's happening like this everywhere (these kind of levels of departures) - it's not. Let me be clear, I'm not saying this is unique to BG, it is not. Yes, it's happening at other places, but it's not a blanket excuse to just say everyone is dealing with it in these extremes. Because they are not. There are levels of how many departures there are for all programs. Every school has and is going to have some forms of departures, but not all of them face the mass defections on a yearly basis like this.
The bottom line is BG is a shell of the program it once was. It can't win anymore (8 losing seasons in 10 years, zero bowl wins in 10 years), it can't consistently compete in the MAC anymore (losing overall MAC record, zero MACC appearances and zero MAC titles in the past 10 years) and it can't compete with the superior MAC programs like Ohio or Miami (Ohio has owned BG for a DECADE, Miami has had its number too), but occasionally manages to pull a rabbit out of its @ss to beat Toledo sometimes like this past season when UT choked that game away (that was a miracle win for BG). BG's culture right now is losing. Programs like Ohio have a winning culture. Even with a terrible situation with Brian Smith's antics - the OU program and the culture of the program far exceeds one man and his stupidity - and Ohio continues to excel and succeed on a high level (10 winning seasons the last 11 years, 7 straight bowl wins - tied for the second longest bowl win streak in the country, 3 MACC appearances and 1 MAC title in the last 10 years). Ohio's entire recruiting class signed WHILE Smith was on leave! Think about that for a second. They actually signed all their commitments and also stole a few others without even knowing who the head coach was even going to be.
There have now been 4 head coaches at Ohio since 2020 - and the program doesn't miss a beat. Because their culture - a WINNING culture - is established, maintained, and built upon, and BG doesn't have one anymore and can't establish one. Clawson recognized it and openly acknowledged it, Loeffler echoed it, and even George knows it and said it this past year. Ohio has a CULTURE. BG has a CAT. And that is exactly why you have seen what is and has transpired over the past decade for both programs, and why it will continue that way. I've been saying it for years now - YEARS - .....and it keeps being proven year after year after year after year after year, so on and so forth.....

Re: 2026 Transfer Portal
I’m not reading all that, but Ohio’s All-MAC tight end is in the transfer portal as of this morning. And their top receiver hit the portal earlier this week. Lmao. Sweet culture.

Boardingham is in the portal.
33 writing novels on here is hilarious. It's MAC football
No one wants to play at this level regardless of how "good" things may seem.

MAC football and NIL at this level is just lighting peoples money on fire. Take regular students money in fees take donors money and just light it on fire. I’d say breeding cats has a better outlook at this point financially.
