Post by mbenecke »

Falcons (10-4, 1-1 MAC) next head east to take on UMass (9-5, 0-2 MAC) on Saturday, January 3rd. Game begins at 2:00pm and will stream on ESPN+.

First chance to see the Minutemen since they’ve rejoined the MAC. Frank Martin hasn’t necessarily had things rolling smoothly over there, but he’s a good coach with a solid track record - he was just in th Final Four with South Carolina in 2017. Very curious to see how this one goes. Will likely be a tough challenge on the road.

Go Falcons! Get back on track.

Absolutely a gotta-have-it game today with Kent and Akron on deck.

What's at stake this week? A win today, and it's not crazy to think we could be 8-4 going into the home game vs UT on Feb 14 and the Stroh is rocking.

But if we go 0-3 this week? We might be below 500 going into that UT game and there's more yellow than orange in the Stroh that day.

Massive massive game today.

I think we have a large enough sample size now to see this team can’t shoot threes. There is hardly any way to win consistently in today’s game without being able to spread the floor and knock down shots.

Missed most of the first half (thanks car dealership). Big road win to get back on track and wow what a game from Campbell!!! Some game thoughts below

  • No Thomas today so short on guards
Umass had a traditional center so a good amount of minutes for Goins with Glover in foul trouble
We could not stop said center
Campbell drove all game and umass couldn't stay in front of him or avoid fouling him. Don't know why but they switched to an extended defense on him for a while
Umass switched to a zone with about 8 and a half minutes to go which killed our offense with towns on the bench with 4 fouls. 12-0 run as a result
Parker for umass killed us on threes all game and we kept helping off him
We had a chance to put the game away in the second half but most of the game we were shooting 55-60 percent on free throws
Second half took an hour and 15 minutes as it felt like there were close to 50 free throws
Wolf and Ruffin hit a lot of key shots to help Campbell late in the second half and ot
Our end of game press is still unreal
Most importantly take a bow Javonte Campbell! One of the best individual performances in BG basketball history

Incredible win. All-time performance from Campbell.

Big time road win, and without Thomas to boot. Hopefully he's not out too long.

We've got a really good team, and the top 8 in the MAC looks really strong. Got the feeling there's going to be a lot of games like this one this season. Buckle up!
