Only gave up 1 on the 5 min kill. Have had a couple of power plays but nada. Not sure what needs to change but something does. We start the second with the man advantage so we’ll see.

Refs are calling this one closely.

Up and down period. We’re 1-for-6 on the PP. They’re 1-for-4 and we start the period on a kill down 3-1.

If we can only go 1/6 on the PP there isn’t much of a disincentive for the opponent to not play crazy.

The crowd is lively. Great energy.

5-3 WIN!

77 penalty minutes combined. In no way shape or form did Minville's hit me the definition of "checking from behind." Ref started the game with a Gopro on his helmet. That came off during the long review....

Just got home, great game! A shorty and a PPG - maybe they were reading my posts.

Saw Minville in the concourse and told him he got screwed. He thanked me.

We got clobbered in the face off circle which is a rarity. But you gotta love a 3-goal third period.

Awesome win. Crowd was electric tonight.

There was almost zero flow for the first 40 minutes of the game with all the penalties and BS, but they let em play a bit in the 3rd and our bag was deeper than theirs.

I’m proud of the fellas. It ended up being a pretty gritty win tonight.

I sure thought Minville got their guy shoulder on shoulder, the unfortunate part was their guy was just starting to slip so he went down hard, but not sure how that’s 5 and a game for our guy. Couldn’t believe it took more than 15 minutes for them to get that sequence sorted out, and their solution was to put 9 guys in the box.

Also thought the “continuing the altercation” call for Gus was pretty absurd. Same with the “slash” at the end of the 2nd, he didn’t slash anyone. Feels like the refs target 5 when he’s on the ice.

I think the refs were, as Shoresy says, out to “set the tone.” They weren’t going to let this one get out of hand early.

Not a fan of those kind of penalty fests despite how the officials wanted to call the game. Wreaks havoc with the lines.

Special teams wound up being even I believe (two PP goals each) with the BG shorty giving them the slight advantage for the evening. Small sample size but it seems like the defense feels a bit more settled with Higgins entering the lineup. Full barn sounded great on the broadcast despite the camera work being subpar. Hopefully this weekend provides momentum for the second half.

Glad Willy has changed the standard following the holiday break. His messaging sounds a lot like Todd McLellan with the Red Wings. Consistent effort, game management, ramping up the compete. Good stuff to get a look behind the scenes...and some PTSD of doing the same when I was with the club team many moons ago.

Here's the link on YouTube:

Missing from that video is the last 2 minutes of Saturday's game, where I'm fairly certain every BG player on the ice had at least one blocked shot, with a couple guys just absolutely eating pucks multiple times. As good as Moore looked, the guys in front of him sold out for him when they needed to.
