Indeed it was painful to watch. Falcon’s 2nd straight double-digit loss. Falcons’ 19 turnovers turned into 25 points for CMU. Yes, it was Moxey’s best game of the year, however she has a bad habit of dribbling the ball before she shoots a straight up layup. One example of a lack of fundamentals with this team. The Falcons looked lost against a straight man-to-man defense…….no screens, no crisp passes, no pounding the ball inside. Just way too much dribbling and small guards trying to drive to the basket among the trees, only to throw up a prayer at the basket that barely draws iron. Only one made 3-pointer, and difficulty trying to stop the CMU offense from scoring. Chmiel & Company needs to start coaching his players toward fundamental excellence, and utilizing players’ strengths, and developing the areas they struggle with. From beginning to end, I didn’t see any positive changes being made from the BG bench, thus results stayed the same throughout. CMU imposed their will, and BGSU allowed it to happen. Do each of our players have a well-defined role before stepping onto the floor? We seem to be missing leadership, especially the last two games. Can we please train the players to cut down the dribbling by at least 50-60%? This team needs much more work in handling a good man-to-man defense. Also, officiating left much to be desired. I probably sound over-critical here, but I’m only sharing obvious observations I’m seeing with this team. It seems they’re playing out of panic and desperation, not intensity and resolve! This trend needs to change if the Falcons want to have a successful season, and the play of the previous two games is not going to get it done. Just my honest opinion. GO FALCONS!

You aren’t going to win to many games with 19 turnovers, shooting roughly 30% from the field, and shooting very poorly from 3 point range. Koehler appears to regressed on long range shooting which really hurts. Also Donahue has not been the same since she started to have a brace on her leg. At this point It appears it’s going to be another disappointing season. Hope I’m wrong.

Agree to all of the above. We don’t have floor leaders like Velasco and Fleming anymore, and we need players like that to lead the pack. Unfortunately, we don’t have that type of player leadership on this team. Our team this year has some good talent, but it’s not great talent, and our depth is not overwhelming. These players have some good basketball skills, but are not fundamentally sound enough to compete at a much higher level than we’re currently at. Just calling them as I see them. My hope is that the coaching staff will address the fundamentals issues as much as they address execution of offensive and defensive schemes. A fundamentally unsound team cannot play at a high level if they are prone to unforced mistakes. One line Curt Miller yelled to his players during his tenure here was “Attack!!!” I’ve still not seen this team in a continual attack mode, and be the aggressor and not the victim.

I'll just say it -- I don't think we are very good.

Five teams are going to miss the MAC Tournament. At this point, it appears that Akron, Buffalo, NIU and WMU are going to be four of those teams. I hope we are not the fifth team.

If you forced me to make a prediction one way or the other, I would say we will probably sneak in as the 7 or 8 seed, but I'm not 100% convinced that we will.

You are probably right. This team relies on Kohler and Donahue a lot. Woods is helping out some. But generally the third person that has a good night is someone different every game or maybe no one. Like this game where Moxey who usually is a personal foul machine comes out of a 2 ppg season and has the game of her life. Fearne did the same thing earlier in the season though she is a really streaky shooter. As I have said before, this has a very Jennifer Roos like feel under Coach Fred.

Remember, Coach Fred has assistant coaches working for him. What are they doing to enhance the players’ skill sets. I’m not seeing any player improvement this season yet.

This team is blah
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I’m super disappointed in the direction of the program. On paper, Chmiel was a pretty strong hire. But it clearly has not worked and the program has taken multiple large steps back in his time here. He’s gotta figure it out or it’s going to be the end of the line for him. Here’s hoping the Falcons can find something here.

I haven't seen anything in the area of recruiting that gives me great hope for the future, and I expected better records during his first two seasons, given the personnel. I know Fleming missed about a year overall, but with a relatively healthy Fleming during the conference schedule last season, along with Velasco, Porter, Kohler & Donahue, I feel like we could have been better than a tie for fifth place and a first-round tourney exit.

Then we lost Velasco, Porter and Fleming (in addition to McGuff, KK and Wallace), and added three transfers and one freshman. So far, Woods is the only one of the newcomers who has had meaningful minutes & stats. Bland-Fitzpatrick & Miller had virtually no stats vs. CMU, and Cook didn't even play. Obviously, we lost more than we added during the off season, personnel-wise.

I love Kohler and Donahue, but I don't feel like either of them are ready to lead the team. Kohler was awesome as the 3rd or 4th option last year, but has struggled this season with people keying on her. Donahue has upped her game, and is obviously only a sophomore, but neither of them seem to have the ability to take over a game, at least not yet.

Moxey had an awesome game vs. CMU, but we don't seem to have anyone that we can rely on from game to game. Meanwhile, there seem to be a number of coaches in the league (Box at Miami is the best example) who are able to reload each year and/or do more with less. I hate to say it, but I'm getting a little bit of a Roos vibe as well.
