Sacramento State?..in the MAC?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Steinbrecher has to be the dumbest commissioner in sports.
Bleacher Creature. BGSU '20.

How about no? Although I don't see us saying no to 15 million dollars and years without paying them tv revenue. Nothing like a 10pm Tuesday game

He's doing the bidding of the presidents. I take this potential move as a sign the conference is close to collapse. Desperate to infuse some cash to bridge into the next media deal.

After reading the article it looks like the MAC is Sac State's only way of joining the FBS. In a few years they will leave for a league out west. With this deal the MAC will get 15 million and stay afloat for now.

If this is how desperate we are for cash, is it time to admit we can't afford to stay in D1? My dwindling interest in BG athletics in the era of NIL and the transfer portal isn't going to be revived by an 11pm EST kickoff on a Tuesday night.

The next media deal will determine the length of viability for the conference. The last deal was struck for too long and hurt the members as inflation factors and realignment fell outside the MAC. Eventually though I see the MAC falling apart with some members dropping to FCS or joining other conferences.Critical Thinker wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 10:48 am If this is how desperate we are for cash, is it time to admit we can't afford to stay in D1? Pete Thamel says deal is done and kicks in this year. $18 million to the conference.

We get the same amount of money as a P4 buy game. Can't wait to see who plays out there and I hate having 13 teams

A desperate act by a desperate conference trying to hang onto D1 status that was lost years ago. How about we stop looking for a way to stay D1 in football and actually develop a business plan for the athletic department that makes any financial sense?

I love it. It's football only. You travel out there at most every other year. Players will love going to California.

Bingo. This deal made sense in the cable era, it’s clearly run its course now. To that point as well the proliferation of weeknight games worked to shrink fanbases and attendance. I think half the league eventually falls to the FCS, there’s just not enough people going to these gamesjpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 11:10 am The next media deal will determine the length of viability for the conference.
