Thats HUGE  for a guard. It seems like he would have a lot of troulbe moving around in the interior line.

My guess is he will sit out Spring Ball to get his academics in order but remain on the team until Summer comes around, and then they will evaluate his status.

Exactly. If he's that big and he has good feet... wow.

I recall a conversation with an asst. coach 2 yrs. ago that Derrick might not remain eligible...I'm glad he's been able to get the academics in order since he HAS to be BG's biggest lineman ever!...and He sure takes up a lot of space in that interior line.... as long as we don't need to pull him a lot, he should work out just fine...I like the looks of the OL assuming everyone stays healthy...good replacements (though a bit inexperienced) all the way through; and the "2 deep" roster looks pretty good...

BTW, noticed they'd moved D.Briggs to LB, which would seem to make sense to me as he's not put on much weight, certainly would handicap him at DE spot.... Hopefully, he'll prove to be as good a find as the WVU coach who supposedly wanted him badly thought.

Big D is absolutely HUGE, his size at guard will be awsome. He has worked very hard to be elligible - much to his credit.

Went to practice Friday - the O line is the biggest I can remember in my 50+ years and they are good too. D. Briggs at LB is a smart move, he is tall and Fast! just have to get him some experience and hope he improves - looked good on the punt rush.

We also are strong at QB - Omar is the absolute leader, even in these early practices he is confident and smooth.

The guys are working hard. :D

Anyone see who we have at holder? Turner. That should help keep teams on their toes when when we line up for a field goal.

I feel that the O-line will be just fine this year. Everyone worries about this spot on our team but I feel that we should actually have a little faith in our coach. To tell the truth, anyone who is a reshirt soph (Junior elg. wise) would be from the first real recruiting class from Greg Brandon. This being said. eveyone wants to see Brandon stay yet, we are the first to question his recruits. There appears to be a bit of hypocrisy there.

I say, we just sort of trust the Offense for this year and see how things turn outin the spring game and in Madison. Whatever comes of it, I will be there cheering on my BGSU. None-the-less, I feel that there has been some unfair karma sent towards the o-line. Let's face it. BGSU has has one of the best offenenses in the past 3 years. We may have lost a few Scotty M's but those same Scotty M's were the one's who recruited Korey lich...and the rest of the Fab five. Here is my prediction for staring O-line in Madison opening day...

-LT -- Nystrom (though little exp, had a few under his belt last year (NIU))
-LG -- Watson (didn't play much but i predict will be the smartest O-linmen in history of BGSU, from what I hear. played a bit in the GMAC bowl and scored on both series
-C Lichtenstieger (sp?) (probably the most highly touted BGSU player in a few years. Basically was ranked in the highest of the high amonst all DI-AA. Center is his true pos.)
-RG--(Big D, Makray will make his grades work and will make his feet work as well. As long as he does this, Omar is golden).
-RT -- (R. Warren, need I say more)

There you have it. If I am wrong, my apologies. However, no need to worry about the o-line. I saw them practice these past few days, and this is what I feel will be the case. We still have solid backups but let's face it, this is the future, so let's embrace it.

This is my first post, I love this board and respect all those who hold BGUS close to their heart. Thank you for all your posts and enlightenment. GO BGSU!!!!

I also think it's huge to remember we're now going to see Brandon's recruiting classes in action.

I agree that our O-line will be just fine. But according to Brandon, Lichtensteiger will be staying at guard. He was all-conference, no need to change position. And if he did change positions, then we would have new guys at four spots on the o-line. With Lichtensteiger staying at guard, we just ahve new guys at three positions.
