BG curlers take second at nationals

Post by Sussman »

Bowling Green sent two teams to the College Curling National Tournament in Chicago this past weekend, and one team finished second in Division 1. Another finished fourth in Division 3.

The team of Mike Moore (skip), Jordan Atherine (vice), Tom Moore (second) and Nick Young (lead) went 3-0 in round robin play before losing to U. of Washington in the gold medal game. Two years ago a similar BG squad won the national tournament.

Another team -- Matt Cary (skip), Matt Sussman (vice) (and also me), Luke Dubin (second) and Nik Geller (lead) finished fourth in Division 3 by going 2-1 in round robin play, but losing to Eastern Michigan in the bronze-medal round.

The tournament was comprised of 32 teams into four divisions based on curling experience, 1 being the most and 4 being novice.

The gold medal game between Moore's BG team and Washington will be rebroadcast on College Sports TV at a later date.
