Windows in Student Rec Center?

Post by BGSU33 »

This isn't a football related question, but I knew I'd get a quick response here instead of waiting for awhile on another page.

I saw a picture of Warren Stellar Field (BG baseball facility) the other day and in the background you can see the Rec Center. It looks like there are now windows along the backside of the walls which makes me think this would be the full-court basketball courts and track and the swimming pool. Is this correct, are there windows there now? I hope so, I always thought that's what the place needed. If these are windows, when did they put them in? They talked about putting them in when I was in school and I haven't been in the Rec Center in awhile. Please fill me in. Thanks.

Yep, they put windows about where the ground meets the back of the building, Corresponding to fairly high up in the pool. Done around 01-02. This was done during the renevations to the pool, to make it a little less cave like.
I stopped working there before it was finished, and can't remember if I have been in it since.
They may have added them to the basketball side as well, but they hadn't before I left, so I'm not sure.

Nope, only on the track-side. That and the brighter paint inside has gone a long way to improving the place.

It still hasn't brought an end to the pin-heads that insist on walking and running in the wrong direction on the track, and give looks of shock and surprise when people actually ask them to turn around.

Nor has it ended the girls that prop themselves up by their arms while using the stairmasters, pumping away at a million tiny little steps per minute, and think they are actually working out. (twits)

Finally, the girls running the workouts down front, still can't figure out how to properly use a PA system. They constantly turn the music up too loud, then try to shout over it, systematically getting more shrill as they go on.

Geez, that wasn't an uplifting post.

So, they didn't cut them in to the Pool? I thought that they had. It was supposed to be a really foggy glass, (so you couldn't see in to it) but enough the let light in.
Oh well, I knew they laid new tile on the pool deck, then re-did a few months later, because it was all coming up.

The windows are up near the roof on both sides. So for example, when using the exercise bikes on the mezzanine level that overlook the pool, you are basically looking straight out through the windows on that side ( you can see the roof of the field house). On the other side, the windows are above the running track that is above the basketball courts. Even when using the track, the windows are several feet above your head still. Can't look out of them, but they let in a lot of light.

Well, that's a dangerous thing to do. From so far away and wearing a bathing suit, alot of those girls look all right. But if you get a chance to see them up close  , they are cover-your-eyes ugly.

Yeah, but be carefull doing that between 3-5, those girls swimming under the equipment are all under 18. You have to look down to the lanes under the blocks to get the co-eds. Back when I was in highschool swimming with them I enjoyed it though.

Its those male comments again, huh guys?

I can't imagine them not putting windows in, in the first place. Thats stupid, considering how much light they let in. Does anyone have any pics without the windows? I can't picture it...

We call them "the Dark Ages"... I have been trying to picture, and I always thought there *were* windows at the pool, if only way way up in the ceiling... skylights almost.

Only windows in cooper pool were into the gym itself. The little pool with hot tub, of course had the wall of windows. I probably have pictures, but would take me a while to find them. It used to be rather dark in a normal day, for meets they would actually turn all the lights and it would be quite bright. Of course no windows always made it more fun to swim after hours with just the pool lights on.

For those "dark agers" out there who are interested in the what the windows look like in the pool area now. The left picture is the wall of windows PGY was talking about that have always been there, and the right picture is the new windows they put in for Cooper pool. I can't find a dark ages photo.

Man, I can't believe how much that photo on the right looks like our local YMCA.

Now, imagine this without windows, bright halogen lamps, more yellowish walls, and brown tile (with some orange if I remember right. Seeing the diving platforms reminds me of all the fun jobs they gave us, Like polishing the brass hand rails and gutters.
