Who's going to play RB after Pope??

Post by Germainfitch1 »

I was looking at the Depth Chart and with Stover gone do we have anyone who has that kind of ability?

Yeah, your right , I''m beginning to wonder myself. :? Is Stover really gone? Darn, I really thought that he could be really good for us. I'm thinking either Bobby Thomas or mayaby Chris Bullock ,but I'm just throwing out names that were given the title rb on our recruiting list. It seems that Thomas might be turned into a db.

What's Petey Hood's status as far as getting a look in the backfield?

Bullock looks really good on film...Bobby Thomas was pretty good in HS from what I've heard. Dan Macon was impressive in last year's spring game and Melvin Cole is back at RB, but was injured much of last year with a lacerated kidney.

I'd really like to see Hood stay at DB. I really like the idea of having a 6ft tall shutdown corner.

I think we'll see Macon get some meaningful time this season so the coaches can determine if he's the real deal. It will be interesting to see how Cole handles full contact.

As for Hood, I'm with Flip; it would be awesome to see us develop him as a DB. Many of us have lamented the fact that the best athletes always seem to end up on offense. Hood could provide a great dimension to our D.

Macon= Real Deal

Post by Class of 61 »

With Stover gone, and I was greatly disappointed, but I guess not surprised by it, I can tell you that I saw Dan Macon play about 8+ games in H.S.(including playoffs) and was more impressed each time I saw him play.
He's also looked good in limited opportunities at BG and I'd like to see that chance increase this year, if for no other reason he'd be the logical starter in '06, unless something radical changes.
As to Bobby Thomas, I also saw him play a few times, mostly against Garfield Hts....he's a different type runner, more scatback than power, but good quickness...would think he's a definite possibility for PT in 06, but probably redshirted, or at best special teams this year.

The real problem this year is that BOTH PJ and BJ are seniors...and both deserve most of the PT.... Bottom line in who plays the most, and this is where PJ has shone thru the last few years, is the ability to get open and catch the ball, in addition to running it. But reality says we should be getting a 3rd back ready, who'll be able to step in and play in 06.

That will prove to be a real challenge. Lane probably deserved more PT than he got, but how do you sit Pope? Now that they are both seniors, that challenge is heightened. I, too, am greatly saddened by Stover's departure. I believe he would have had a monster 2006 if he had kept it together academically.

As for Macon, he'll have to get a real look this year. Your reputation is solid on this type of analysis and I suspect Macon will have a breakout year in 2006.

How oculd you possibly even question if Pope should be playing. He has had Mac Honors the last two years. He is a stud!

The real question should be why isnt Macon being redshirted this year so we have him for more than one year as a starter. If he runs well during the spring game I would sit him all year so we have him the next two. Why waste a season on 45 carries.

Nobody was questioning Pope. 87 was just pointing out that Lane probably deserves more PT, but won't get it with Pope in front of him.
From an overall team point of view, it's nice having those kinds of "problems."

Well, then he and Deaudre Perry must both be on a "leave of absence" so they can get their academic house in order. Probably a good thing.

A 2 back offense???

Post by Falconboy »

It be nice if Coach Brandon came up with this if he hasnt allready. That would give us a another dimension of offense that opposing d-cordinators would have to deal with. MM....two backs and two TE's with a receiver or two, sounds sweet! :D

Warthog: Dead on. How nice would it be for both Perry & Stover to get their grades in order and play more football!

Fitch...I don't see us redshirting Macon this year. Not that the idea doesn't make sense, but players don't usually take a year off in the middle of their four years unless they're hurt .

On a completely different topic, can you imagine how BEASTLY our Dline would have been this year with Leininger and Crossley still around?
I like the idea of sliding Williams out to DE.

I may be wrong and if I am I'll eat a bug, but I think at least one, if not two of the dlineman we signed this year will get significant time this fall.

I predict that Thomas James and Trevor Frericks will challenge for 2nd team status this fall!
