I remember #13 well. I've been using Poe Ditch Rats as my fantasy football team name for years.

I file a complaint with question #12. Might be semantics but the structure known as Perry Stadium now was called University Stadium AS WELL and the field was Perry Field until it was redidcated following coach Perry's death in 92 or so, only then was it named Perry Stadium.

Great questions though, love historical BG stuff.

Poe Ditch Rat was a funky offensive formation during the Moe Ankney years. I can't really remember exactly what it was, though. I believe it worked once.

I'd have to say White as the 3rd QB also.

I'll answer some of the one's people had trouble with:

4. False (It's the other way around. Freak I can't believe you missed this one)

5. The Whammy started in the '70s. We couldn't beat them in Football or hoops. In my 4 years, we never beat Miami.

9. False, he became backfieled coach for Bo at Michigan.

18. William Jerome (we also called it Mt. St. Jerome)
BG '79

D1 - The awful run from 1973-1982 when Bowling Green was incapable of beating Miami. I believe I've heard Miami fans say we got what we deserved for needlessly adding a touchdown near the end of the '72 game.

D2 - Generally, our lack of success against Miami.
9. False, [Nehlen] became backfieled coach for Bo at Michigan.
I'm pretty sure his his contract at Bowling Green wasn't renewed, either.

Finally, on the Poe Ditch Rat: It was the pole cat, and it looked similar to the extra point formation we ran for a long time under Gary Blackney.

One one end of the field, the center lined up on the ball. Behind in a deep shotgun was the quarterback. A couple of other players were lined up on that end, too, to give the QB a modicum of protection.

The rest of the team was lined up on the other end of the line of scrimmage.

The theory of the formation, I think, was to try to create mismatches. If the defense lined up properly, the receivers/backs on the side of the quarterback could still try to exploit one-on-one matchups on his side of the field.

And if the defense lined up too many people near his side of the quarterback, he could screen to the other side of the field -- where most of the team was ready to bowl over defenders.

That's all theory, though. I'm pretty sure Moe Ankney only ran the Poe Ditch Rat three times, against Ball State in 1990.

If I remember right, two of those plays ended up horrendous sacks, and the third was a pass that fell incomplete. He went back to a traditional offense after that.
