Montgomery leaving
Best of luck to Austin whereever he goes, if he does transfer. I would think that brand new coach Dane Fife (of Indiana fame) and IPFW would be a one of many logical destinations for Austin.
Also, this would open a third scholarship for us if Fitch is indeed gone too. What is even more curious about all of this is the notion posted by a follower of New Holland basketball on JJHuddle that claimed the idea of Erik Marschall was that Dan was going to redshirt him.
The noise you heard in the distance was the phone of Quantez Robinson ringing and it's ringing a lot louder now.
Let's hope there's a JC guy or two out there!

6. Mawel Soler 6-5

I see us going after 2 guards, one of which may be something other than a freshman. I imagine (and perhaps hope) that the final scholarship will be given to a SO or JR frontliner.

Re: We'll have 3 to give
Is he on scholarship for good?!? I mean if they had an extra one for a semester I can see giving it to him, just for the heck of it, but no way does he deserve a full scholarship for his time in BG. I love his work, but he doesn't have the talent to take a scholarship that could be used on someone else in recruiting.BGorDeath wrote:No joke.hammb wrote:That better be your idea of some sick joke.BGorDeath wrote:

Of course since we cannot seem to keep anyone around here anymore, we probably can afford to give him a scholly

More disturbing is the trend of offseasons:
2005 - Austin Montgomery
2004 - Isaac Rosefelt, Chris Hobson, Ron Lewis
2003 - Raheem Moss
2002 - Erik Crawford
I would have to do the research, but I find it really hard to believe that it is normal to lose this many kids. I love Dan, but you cannot build a program when you can't even keep your kids in the program. Every year just becomes another rebuild with a bunch of underclassmen.

Very true.

What we could have had
These posts remind me of what we have lost and what we could have had. For a mid-major to make a run at it in the NCAA, alot of things need to go right. Just think if things had gone right for BG and we had the following roster this year.
Reimold
Almanson
Wright
Crawford
Fitch (Injury Free)
Lewis (Without an agenda)
Hobson
Eyink
Floyd
Moon
Vandermeer
Lefeld
Soler (DD probably would not have gone after him with this line-up)
The only weak spot is PG. I think the strengh of the other positions, would more than compensate for this. If you used the whole line-up you could run other teams into the ground.

Add to that a very athletic Reggie Harwell at the 3 and Raheem Moss who average in the high teens at CSU and Isaac Rosefelt who I still believe was the player with the most potential from that class.
With these line-ups, John Floyd, Mawi Soler and Moon Robinson would never have been a part of the program.

Sure we have a bigger amount of players leaving this program than most other programs but I don't think it has anything to do with any of the coaches. I'd blame weak recruiting before any of the coaches (yes I realize coaches do recruiting but I'm talking more about coaching styles). We seem to catch a lot of players that haven't transitioned from high school to college level and they seem to not be sure if this is the place that is right for them IMO.
The whole looking at who we could have had is all what ifs. It's never going to be like that so why think about it. I'm confident in the freshmen class we have coming in and think next year will be better than last. Even if the freshmen leave in 2 years, we will still have new ones to replace them!!
I think it's time to stop worrying about how things could have been and hope our recruiting steps up in the future.

The sheer amount of talent that we've had in our hands and, for various reasons, have missed out on is very mind-boggling.
Jay Keys
Ray Austin
Seth Doliboa
Reggie Harwell
Germain Fitch
Raheem Moss
Ron Lewis
Erik Crawford
Chris Hobson
(Tony Reid?)
Every single one of these guys is/was a potential all-MAC performer.

I agree 33. It's also about having faith in those young players. OU's impact freshmen were no longer playing like freshmen at the end of the season. They are going to go out there and make mistakes, but you let them play through it, learn through it.BGSU33 wrote:See: Ohio University.
That is all I will say, or have to say, about our recruiting efforts from now on. Impact newcomers who play and perform right away.

that right there is why our freshman either don't develop, or develop somewhere else. They are too afraid to make mistakes and don't play to their potential because of it. And even worse, they know for a fact that if they get a few minutes and make a mistake, they may not see the floor for 3 games. If this trend continues, I'd bet we will never have impact freshmen like OU. DD's style does not allow for it.
