Um, yeah, but only more experienced and more the focal point of the offense.1987alum wrote:Um, you mean like they were last year?duckunder53 wrote:Yeah, I got word today that #85 is Steve Sanders. I'm excited to see him and Sharon on the field together.

That definitely crossed my mind. The statement that talks about how bad our D looks compared to the offense no doubt scares me. I am scared to watch our secondary play. The last two seasons we have at least had a true star back there. I just figured it had to be Sanders. His size and ability really stands out. I think he is going be a solid NFL player.hammb wrote: Why must I be the only one so pessimistic to worry that it's our DBs sucking and not the greatness of this un-named WR? Its a curse...
Sanders is a stud, and with a followup season he could very well be drafted next year. He has the size speed & performance numbers that really make an NFL team take notice.kdog27 wrote:That definitely crossed my mind. I'm still scared to death of our defense, especially the secondary.

Hammb....
I also still agree. :-\ Hopefull we got a good secondary coach to help these guys get better. I hope Nate Waldron gets good playing time in secondary, cuz if all we see all year is Jordan and Mayberry , well I dont' want to even think about it. Lets hope for a REAL pass rush this year as well. I like Brad Williams a DE , definitly a better position for him to do some damage.

"The article mentioned that Steve Simonton (corner) and Bryan Jackson (safety) have left the team."
Not to belittle either of these two young men, however is either a great loss at this time? Seeing as how I don't recall hearing their names alot in the past, I would have to think "no". Please correct if wrong.

Converting Fort Wayne one fan at a time!!
Petey Hood was not mentioned in Monday's Sentinel story about spring practice. Brandon did talk about Vance Johnson moving to DB and that we need to find a place for him on the field. The exact quote was something like "he doesn't need to be standing beside me on the sideline holding a clipboard".Flipper wrote:Time for Petey Hood and Erique Dozier to step up
At WR, he said Brandon Jones and Derrick Lett were playing well, and it sounded like Ruiz looks good at TE. Also, Deaudre Perry is skipping spring drills to work on his acedemics. Hopefully this will pay off and he will be eligible come September.

Both were listed at #2 on the spring depth chart at their respective positions (Simonton at CB behind Mayberry and Jackson at SS behind Crumpler.)bc ziggy 58 wrote:"The article mentioned that Steve Simonton (corner) and Bryan Jackson (safety) have left the team."

Simonton got PT in both games we saw and he looked like a great athlete with loads of potential. As noted, it certainly doesn't help.Warthog wrote:Both were listed at #2 on the spring depth chart at their respective positions (Simonton at CB behind Mayberry and Jackson at SS behind Crumpler.)bc ziggy 58 wrote:"The article mentioned that Steve Simonton (corner) and Bryan Jackson (safety) have left the team."

Glad to hear that Perry is focusing on academics. I'm really rooting for him to get it together!

Yeah Simonton appeared to be a good player in the action he saw. I spoke with him the day before the GMAC Bowl at the final walk through at the Stadium. He was injured and running the bleachers. Nice guy and even posed for a picture that I shared with you guys. . .
Sounds like things are falling into place with the team.

According to the spring game rosters, the mystery #85 is redshirt freshman DB Kyle Cox, though at 6-0, 170 he doesn't seem like the superhuman figure that was described at JJ Huddle.
Sanders is again listed as #12, maybe he's just trying on ALL the uniform numbers to find one that feels good.
