Leadership Auditions

Post by goofyeuph »

I understand Doc H has been kept pretty busy between concert bands, and Tourney Band that has gone into overtime (good luck to those going to Washington BTW), but has anyone heard anything about leadership auditions?? I check my calendar at it sez middle of march. If I recall correctly, at least the beginning information is coming out by now.

She emailed us saying the info "will be out soon."

I certainly would bet the Tourney Band to Seattle has thrown back her plans at least a few days. It's a whole crapload of unexpected planning, plus several days out of state.

No worries, it'll happen.

I'm not worried...mainly because I'm not marching next year...I'm just curious. I am sure that going to washington has her pulling her hair out, and leadership audtions have taken a back seat. I was just curious if someone who is slightly more in the know than me had heard anything.

I'm sure the fact that they're leaving BG at 3:15 Saturday morning didn't help with the pulling-hair-out thing......

I repeat don't quote me on any of this. Nothing is set in stone, and I don't like rumors.

This is what I've heard through the grape vine and I would consider it 85% correct. What was supposed to happen was on Sunday 3/20, there was going to be an informational meeting for all those interested in auditioning for leadership. I believe that letters of intent would be due on Wednesday of that week but here is where things get interesting. Monday of that week would be the playing audition, Tuesday would be Marching Fundamentals (I imagine teaching.) and Wednesday would be the interviews. That leaves the conducting portion (DM) for Thursday night during the regularly scheduled Athletic Band time. We'll just see what happens with the Athletic Bands gone, and how much longer things could get pushed back. :D

Good luck to all of those auditioning!

I love band! Be good to your horn, it's been good to you hasn't it? ^_^

Well hmm-- I must say I'm glad it's being pushed back, since I couldn't have made the meeting cuz of Dance Marathon.

-Monday was just a short informational meeting. They handed out the applications.
-Tuesday, applicants went into Kelly in groups of six or so, and had to "teach" each other, and demonstrate, marching techniques in front of Dr H, Ryan, Jason, Jeff, and Justine. Also turned in the applications.
-Wednesday and Thursday, applicants go in one by one to Dr H's office (where she, Ryan, Jeff, and Justine are present) and play two one-minute exerpts of pieces they prepared, one technical, one lyrical. Then there's an interview for a couple minutes.
-Also on Thursday is when the drum major applicants demonstrate their conducting skills.

Seems to be going well so far. They were going to have interviews/auditions on Wednesday only, but there are so many applicants they have to run over into Thursday. So more interviews tonight; not sure when the results will come out.

Hey now, I had the pleasure of running into Jason last night outside/inside of Polleyes :-D He seems happy! And it was nice to visit with him for a brief moment. (for the record, Ryan was there too)

I didn't say I wasn't happy to see him; I was just surprised that he was there!

I would be very surprised too! Thats why I asked. I know he writes half our drill, but I honestly wouldn't expect him to show up for leadership auditions...particularly from Oxford
