Eye on the MAC this week

Post by BGSU33 »

One of the games I am really most interested in the results of, besides the BG game of course, is the Northern Illinois vs. Southern Illinois game in Dekalb. This game has the potential to be a good one. SIU is the #1 ranked I-AA in the country and is led by one of the best TB duos in the nation with Auburn transfer Brandon Jacobs and Minnesota transfer Terry Jackson. This game could be a good one and I'm anxious to see what NIU does facing an in-state opponent without QB Josh Haldi again. Remember, two years ago when BG went to NIU ranked #16 in the country and was undefeated at 8-0, we got beat by NIU shortly after another I-AA team from Illinois (Western Illinois) went to Dekalb and beat the Huskies a few weeks earlier.

The common thread for BG in all of this is, SEMO lost to SIU 42-3 last Thursday.

One thing that really jumped out at me was Buffalo was favored by 15 points over Syracuse!!! When was the last time Buffalo was flat out favored in a football game, none the less by 15-points over a Big East school?!

I really hope the MAC rebounds this week, it needs some wins. I think BG will beat SEMO and Kent State will beat Liberty, but those are both I-AA victories. I am hoping Miami (vs. Cincinnati) and Akron (Middle Tennessee) can come up with some wins but I am not sure about anyone else. I actually think that Toledo vs. Kansas is going to be a good competitive game. We'll see.
GO BG!!!

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around.

If Buffalo is getting 15, they are tempting. Syracuse looked abysmal Sunday.[/quote]

Maybe that is what is should have been, but when I checked it had UB favored. I agree though, probably a mistake.

As bad as Syracuse looked, I'd be tempted to take the Bulls and 15.
The Orange looked horrible and this isn't quite the same Purdue team from 2003.

Bulls +15 is a stone-cold lock.

Syracuse is a team, program, campus and city in disarray right now in regards to the football team. Talk of fan boycotts until Pasqualoni is fired, etc.

Come on now. Buffalo has won a total of two games in the past two years and to project them to beat a "weak" Syracuse by more than two touchdowns is just wrong. It's about as bad as BG being underdogs at 32.5 points against OK.

I hope and think Buffalo will beat the Orange, but they are not going to blow them out by 15 or more.

Lord Byron:

If Buffalo beats Syracuse by 15, um, well, the next time you're in Philly, dinner's on me!

BTW, either way, come to the Temple game! :D

I'm sure Buffalo is a 15 point dog. I took a look at Sheridan/USA Today. They have Syracuse as the dog -- I think they just mixed it up.

If Syracuse is getting 15 points... yeah that's a lock.

Click on Saturday . . . the team with the number is the favorite.

Syracuse is a 17 point favorite.

Others are:

Va Tech -24.5 over Western . . . Va Tech to cover

Michigan St. -25.5 over Central . . . State wins, but do they cover?

Purdue -29 over Ball State . . . Purdue rolls, before throwing 99 times against Notre Dame next week

Michigan -11 over ND . . . ND still doesn't score on Michigan and UM rolls big

Ohio State -16 over Marshall . . . Can the Bucks cover? Marshall lost to Troy last year and then beat K-State . . . HMMM . . .

Florida -38.5 over Eastern . . . Big number for Ron Zook or Steve Spurrier

West Virginia -20 over UCF . . . Probably the easiest line so far . . . WVU big

Pittsburgh -17 over OU . . . Pitt covers

Miami -1 over UC at Cincinnati . . . Hopefully Miami bounces back, MAC needs wins, especially against C-DOA

KU -1 over Toledo in Lawrence . . . Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk!!!

Oklahoma -35.5 over Houston . . . Sooners cover against Cougars

Utah -11 over Arizona in Tucson . . . Urban wins again, but I'm not sure he covers

Akron -7 over MTSU . . . Little surprising here, but Zips get one at home

After performing poorly this past weekend the MAC needs to rebound. Big time. An NIU loss at home would be awful for the reputation of MAC football. Once again MAC football would be equated with Top 25 1-AA football. Upon reflection, this weekend made me truly remember the imporatance of home field advantage at the college level. When the big boys come to our rinky dink stadiums (re BC @ BSU) we have a much better chance of being competitive.

I agree my NIU compatriot! The MAC needs to make a statement and make it SOON! Getting blown out in many of our match-ups is not good...Right now, you an us are the best in the MAC IMHO. However, one weekend does not make a season. Let's just get it done...With that said, I'm not real thrilled with the MAC match-ups. Buf v. 'Cuse, Ohio v. Pitt, EMU v. FU, etc. don't exactly have upset Saturday written all over it...But as we say, frequently, that's why they play the game...

Oh, he covers in a huge way. Zona is brutal...they managed a grand total of 7 points in the first three quarters at home against Northern Arizona.

They pulled away late, but for the first 50 minutes of the game, they weren't any better than NAU.

Nope.

I hope he loses every game he ever coaches...unless he ever coaches against Ohio State or Notre Dame, in which case I hope a blimp crashes into the stadium and causes the game to be cancelled.

Wow, you're planning on him coaching one of those schools AND for Tommy Amstutz to be driving in the area at the same time? That's asking an awful lot.
