BG with one vote, meaning someone had us ranked 25th in their poll . . . There's a lot of action this week with head to head match-ups and perhaps we can move up a bit . . . BTW, we're the only MAC team to get a vote.

Most of the coaches, who have a vote, probably did not watch the game and they just read media accounts. Based on those, you would think Oklahoma won easily and BG never had a chance, so none of those coaches bothered to give BG the vote they deserved. You would think that some of the other MAC coaches who have a vote would have wanted another MAC team to be ranked and would have had BG or NIU in their top-25.
What I think is funny is if a team like Texas, for example, would have gone into Norman Saturday and lost by 16 they would probably still be ranked in the top-15. But, an unranked MAC team goes in and plays better than anyone thought and they get one vote, more than likely from their own coach.
In reality the rankings don't matter much other than to get people to notice you. If BG beats NIU in a couple weeks and can put together a nice run through October, they will probably be ranked when Marshall comes to visit.

I could not agree more....if the OK game is any indication, BG will roll thru the MAC in '04. And I fully expect to win the MAC title. That OK contest was no fluke and all us folks here knew we had a good team.BGSU Falconz wrote:We'll get our recognition later this season. If we can give Oklahoma fits, we'll dominate the MAC if that game wasn't just a fluke.
Just how good was the question...

Too early to worry about rankings and polls. If we're 7-1 going into November, as I expect us to be, the stars will begin to align. If we run the table starting Saturday, even the pollsters will have a tough time ignoring a 10-1 team that's headed to a bowl.

Honestly I dont think it's too hard for them to ignore a MAC team, regardless of thie resume. Everyone knows what I'm talking about.1987alum wrote:MotownFalcon:

I think that might have been true before, but the MAC's profile is high enough now that an undefeated team or a team with one loss will get some recognition. That being said, you really need to be at the top of the conference, too. Look at NIU. I still feel badly for how the got screwed out of a bowl last year.
To steal a phrase from a poster elsewhere on the board, if there's a 10-1 MAC team and they're not in the top 25, I'll eat a bug.
