Schedule update

Post by Warthog »

Vandelay has posted an update regarding release on the MAC football schedules. He says they are done and the league office should release in the next week or so. But that could also strech out until the end of the month he says. :x Apparently a late holdup is WMU dropping their game at Wisconsin and picking up a new opponent. But apparently Temple has taken their place and will make a trip to Madison.

As far as BG goes, a Ball State poster says they will be hosting the Falcons on 9/10. That fits in with what I postulated earlier about our September schedule. So here is what I have picked up so far:

9/3 @ Wisconsin
9/10 @ Ball State
9/20 or 21 @ Boise State
10/1 TEMPLE
11/15 @ Miami
11/22 TOLEDO

That leaves us home games with Ohio, Akron, and Western and road trips Kent and Buffalo to fit in on 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, and 11/5.

No home games until October. That sucks. :x

I had heard that Temple would add WMU. I thought I had heard they would add one more MAC game. We'll have to wait and see.

Oh and, Warthog, thanks for the update. You are the Official ScheduleMeister!

You know, I understand that many people have been critical of scheduling IAA teams, but I think it is harder for fans to form an attachment to the team when there are no home games until that far into the season.

I am especially fearful that losses at Wisconsin and Boise along with no home games until October could put a real damper on attendance.

On a brighter note, maybe I can talk Mrs. Warthog into letting me do a Madison road trip since we won't be at home until October. Gotta see a game when you can sit out in shorts and a t-shirt. That won't happen in BG in October unfortunately.

Man does this schedule S U C K!!!! 3 straight road games outta the gate???

Our wedding anniversary is Sept 10th. Uh oh....hopefully, Mrs. Freak will consider a trip to Muncie with the Freaklings a fun time. :?

No home games until Oct. Who the hell made this schedule? It's worse than last year's. And it looks like the Miami game is gonna be a "stay at home and watch on TV" as well....I can't take 2 Tuesdays off in successive weeks. Looks like 8 regular season games at the most for us this year.

Toledo is the only MAC team that we are scheduled to play at home that was open on 9/10. How would you like to have had the Toledo game on 9/10 instead of at the end of the season?

Freak, I really thought YOU of all people would know you NEVER GET MARRIED DURING FOOTBALL SEASON!

Sure it seems like a nice day at the time, but then that day comes up EVERY YEAR.

As for the schedule, I'm with ya'll this proposed schedule sucks balls. We could very well start off 0-2 against BSU & Wisconsin. Combine that with no home games till October & I would put the over under on our attendance average at about 17k.

Of course if we were to go out and beat both Wisconsin & BSU that first home game could be a sellout.

As for the comments about 1AA teams, I'd rather play & lose to these big boys, and give up all early season home games, than see this team play 1AA schools. We are above that now.

Warthog: I thought in your earlier post on the schedule you mentioned Ohio being open at that time.

I have had to search for that thread like six times already this morning. :x Ohio was a possiblity for a home game on 9/24. But if we are playing Boise on a weeknight, that means no game on 9/24. Also, I noticed in that thread that Miami is supposed to play Temple on 11/12. That means we couldn't play them on 11/15. So unless they changed the Temple game, I think I have some misinformation here. :?

Hammb,
It was 1994....I was still a big Browns fan then. I think we'll be able to swing it. Mrs. Freak is very, um, tolerant of my football obsession.
I might have to make quite a deal but I cannot wait until 10/1 to see a freakin game! Besides, most of the time 9/10 does NOT fall on a Saturday!

I agree 100% about your comment concerning the 1-AA's.

Just cruised the Miami board and they do in fact have Temple on 11/12. The Miami fans seem to think the the BG-Miami game will be the last game of the season. Thus forcing us to move the Toledo game up in the schedule. We shall see.

HAHAHAHAHA! ROFL! :finga:  :supz: I'm a woman and even I get that...

But seriously, not only does this kill our shot at a hot jump in the year as far as attendance, but it also SHUTS down any chance for momentum! What the hell are we supposed to do?

And let me tell you, as a marching band member, it scares the crap out of me to think we don't have a home game until October 1. Last season we have 5 weeks off from Oklahoma to homecoming, I think, and it makes everyone tired, worn out, and unenthusiatic. Thank God we played at that crappy Bengals game to break it up. Imagine it this year without even a single game before October! All I can say is I hope like hell we go on a roadtrip. This is going to suck and seriously makes me want to cry.

I can't speak for the band, but I think the enthusiasm of the fanbase in general took a huge hit from the NIU loss. (And again, not knowing about the band, but we played SEMO at home between Oklahoma and homecoming, as well.) But that NIU game just killed alot of the excitement.

Fear not my Falcon friends.....for the road is our friend...it just has lousy flight logistics south of the Mason-Dixon line!

It's time to mobilize:

For rich alumni or those that still have money left after Mobile's GMAC victory/parade get on a plane, train, or automobile to Wisconsin or Boise.

Cincinnati and Dayton platoons cover Ball State and oxford.

Legacy Boy and I will be guarding the visitors gate at Akron and Buffalo (which is not too far from where I was from before I started paying those outrageous out-of-state fees).

Philosophical question: If BG travels to play around where you live is it really an "Away" game
