I find it interesting that they are rating a peson whom they have never met nor have had as an instructor. Is this normal?

Cult status. *sniff*

*chuckle* It was probably Dean Kennel who posted that.*

*I say that with humor and affection for the Dean. He is a class act in my book.

WOW! I knew the opinion of the alumni base, but this is a new perspective.

Yup. If only I had something like this when I was in school.

I'm doing research on MBA schools and stumbled on this little website. I'm getting feel for the program through the profs. It's interesting.

I always use it too-- if I'm debating between two different sessions of a class (or even two different classes) I'll see what students have to say about the professor. The prof makes such a difference to the quality of the class.

I never thought about using it to get a feel for a different school though. That's a good idea.

I may not have said what he did so explicitly, but there are some of us that are not so enamored of Mr. Kelly.

He always thought I was a show off, never learned my name even though I went to summer music institute and was there for four years. (he did call me "Jake" recently tho) Never learned my wife's name. He is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had, but he wasn't infallable. I always felt like he didn't care about how well I did.

FWIW - I got a perfect rating on ratemyteacher.com. Only one kid voted, but I'll still take it.

Yes, but you had him as an instructor, no? I don't expect everyone to have a good opinion of Chief. I know several people who do not. They respected him, but didn't "like" him. That's fine because they got their opinion first hand........not current perceptions based on hearsay and faulty inference.

I was basically pointing out that this person is reviewing an instructor who retired when they were more than likely in junior high. That goes for the positive views as well. I don't see the point in rating an instructor who retired ten years ago.

Bingo. I was in Chief's last conducting class. I conduct like chief. Like a short little chief on crack. I speak reverently about him. I think about him and his teachings daily. He made some questionable choices on inerpretation when he conducted, I think he had favorites and favored them quite much.

Laughable.

It scares me to think about how important I might be in someone's life down the road....

views on Chief

Post by buffo 95 »

I was fortunate enough to know a little of Chief outside the classroom. As BUFFO you get to go to his house once a week during FMB season. Since we couldn't talk to him, he did all the talking and personally I found him to be a very passionate man and quite funny. As a student, I looked up to him, but I wasn't a great student....I can understand those who may have found him a bit abrasive (Iowa stubborness), but if you spent just a few minutes with him on a personal level, you got to undertand how much he cared for the band program at BG. You will never hear me say one bad thing about Chief. You'll hear me say plenty of negative things about what has happened since he left. But Momma always said, if you can't say something nice....
I may not be alumni...but I shall always be BUFFO!!!

I think Mr. Kelly is a wonderful guy. He teased me quite a bit, mostly due to knowing my parents, but he cared about me as a person. I wasn't a music major but what he taught me in band has spilled over into my real life. You never remember a lot about your wedding reception, but I do remember how badly I wanted to go over and sit at the table with Mr. and Mrs. Kelly and Mark and Paula! I think they were having more fun than me! ;).

I wouldn't say that. I would say we were having a LOT more fun than you......even waiting the 3 hours for you to get to the reception hall so we could chow!
