According to the guide, BG is scheduled to play at Pittsburgh in 2008. With Ohio hosting Pitt this year, I gotta believe we have to get a home game with the Panthers out of this.

I finally had some time to page through this treat ... well, virtually page through it, at least.
Not a lot in the way of surprises, but I came away much more excited about our recruiting class. I know we didn't have a lot in the way of "Oh Wow!" recruits (re: Turner, et al), but for some reason I came away feeling alot better about this class after looking over the prospectus.
We added a lot of size this year, but we also added a lot of athleticism; a number of players also lettered in track and/or basketball.
We added players with a history of success and accomplishment, both individually and team. I'm also struck by the number of players who lettered three times. My management mentor passed on a nugget about hiring years back and it's always served me well. We were down to two finalists for a sports writer. They both had good clips and interviewed well. What would be the tie-breaker? As we sat down and talked it over, he noted that one had been an all-state swimmer in high school who went on to letter a few times at a Big 10 school; their teammates had voted them captain, too. The other candidate was a great high school basketball player who went to a smaller college and played sparingly as a freshmen. He said he had hurt his ankle and, well, really didn't get along too well with the coach. He transferred to another school, played sparingly his sophomore year, then quit playing all together.
It's not a lead-pipe cinch, but people who consistently perform and develop a pattern of success are usually the kind of person you want in your organization. Winning breeds winners.
Time will tell, of course, but I like the looks of this class. Brandon said none of them should see playing time this year, so they'll have a year to develop. Looking forward to it!
