I read that on April 9, Miami launched the public phase of a fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise $350 million by 2007 and they've already raised around $160 million.
One of the more interesting details is that 70% of that $350 million will go to scholarships.
Miami is working hard on reducing its dependence on state funding. I know they have instituted a tuition program which moves in that direction, and this new scholarship money will surely be a part of that.
The largest donation so far is $30 million for the business college from the head of the Cintas Corporation.
All this is very impressive. I am looking forward to April 30 when BG will launch the public phase of a fundraising campaign. I am under the impression that it too will seek money for scholarships but that a larger percentage than that of Miami's campaign will go to building new facilities, hopefully including a new convocation center.

The owner of Cintas is a Miami Alum. Mr.Farmer donated money already, which is why our business school is named, Richard T.Farmer School of Business.

Miami's real goal is to make sure in the event that tuition goes the way of the dodo and is only for the flagship university of the state... a school that I feel should be buried and never heard from again... they dont want a lack of funding for professors, tuition or other possible problems. Large endowments can secure the financial future for the school, and I believe that this what they are ultimately hoping for. This is a once in 25 year campaign, this isnt something that you can do every five years. As BG grows its alumni base so will its donations and contributions grow.
