OFFICIAL SCHEDULE RELEASED!!!
Three nationally televised games and a renewal of several MAC East rivalries highlight the 2005 Bowling Green State University football schedule.
"I think the national exposure gives us a great opportunity to showcase our program and the quality players we have at BGSU," said third-year coach Gregg Brandon. "The ratings show that regardless of when a college football game is played, people will watch. We have style of play that is exciting and unique and we have proven that we can play with anyone in the country."
The Falcons will play on ESPN2 at Boise State (September 21) and at Miami (November 15) and at home against Toledo (November 22). In addition, the season opener at Wisconsin (September 3) is an attractive matchup that could be picked up by television later this year.
With a return to the MAC's East Division, BGSU will face Buffalo (on the road October 15) and Akron (at home October 29) for the first time since the 2001 season. With the MAC schedule for BGSU beginning September 10 at Ball State, the Falcons do not play a home game in September, but play four home dates in five weeks during October.. Homecoming will be October 1 when the Falcons host Temple and Family Weekend will take place October 22 when BGSU takes on Western Michigan. The October 8 game with Ohio will be Faculty/Staff/Varsity BG/Hall of Fame/Youth Night and also will take place during Fall Break when students are away from campus.
"We're very excited about the opportunity to appear on national television and look forward to those annual renewed rivalries that come with our move back to the East," said BGSU Director of Athletics Paul Krebs. "I'm disappointed, however, that we now have a home game over Fall Break . Students make up a significant portion of our attendance figure and having a home game at this time is difficult to accept. We have always requested a road game during this week and the league has been able to accommodate us up until this season. It certainly presents a challenge for us."

THE GOOD: 3 nationally televised games with a chance at 1 or 2 more, A fun filled month of October, All home games scheduled for 4pm or later (longer tailgating
), Playing higher caliber teams (& no D-II game), still ending the year against Toledo
THE BAD: No Home games until October, playing 3 games on weeknights, playing probably the 2 of the better MAC teams back-to-back, 3 of our 4 biggest games are away
Overall, our schedule has its ups and downs, I'm just happy it has finally been released !!

The schedule has me in a foul mood.
webboy: I cannot remember the last time Bowling Green played a D-II school. SEMO State is D-IAA. Same for Liberty and Eastern Kentucky. Sorry to pick a nit, but that's what bad moods will do for me.
As for the schedule, it certainly has good, bad and ugly.
Because Toledo is at The Doyt, we'll probably get an overall decent average for attendance.
But ... we saw how Homecoming is not an automatic sellout last year and Temple isn't exactly a huge drawing card. It's the home opener, which should help, but if the Falcons stumble out of the gate - distinctly possible with tough roadies vs. Wisky & Boise State, bad weather could really suppress things.
The students are not around for the Ohio game. Plenty of good seats available for Frank Solich's Doyt debut. Thanks for that keen scheduling move MAC!
Western Michigan drew OK last year and the athletic department made it Family Weekend -again. Let's hope for good weather - again. Or else.
Akron is around Halloween. The weather and the Falcons records will tell the whole tale here.
In short, we could be looking at another year full of "Why Does Attendance S*ck" threads here.
Did I mention I'm in a foul mood?

Thanks, Schade!Schadenfreude wrote:Grand Valley State, in 1978. It was a 49-3 win.1987alum wrote:webboy: I cannot remember the last time Bowling Green played a D-II school.
So it's not such a surprise that there isn't a D-II team on the schedule, since the last time we played one, a Georgia peanut farmer was in the White House.

A question...
Students are on break in October
Why is that? Am I missing something?
Also, NO games start before 4pm!!! That is great!
'87,
The offer stands if you and Noah wanna stay with the Freaks on your trip. We don't have a pool but have a pond in the back with plenty of frogs and turtles!
I'm not crazy about this schedule either.

Krebs said in the release that they are on Fall break. Did we have Fall break? I don't remember that. I remember being off at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break.TG1996 wrote:I was thinking the same thing.Falconfreak90 wrote:A question...

Candy asses.
Krebs must be pretty PO'd to use a quote like that in the release, though. Usually it's all sugary and sweet. Good to see him voice his displeasure with the MAC.

Fall break is pretty new at BG. It is something a lot of schools are moving to, UK (typically opening day of October horse racing) Miami etc. The UK one works out great for me because it conicides with Fayette Public schools fall break, and that typically conincides with homecoming, giving me a three day weekend to make the trip to BG

Dan: Your new avatar gives me the creeps (and, FWIW, I know Noah won't like it, since his fear of yellowjackets almost kept him from signing up for football in the Fall).UK Peregrine wrote:AHHHH!!!
