Who do you think will be in the class of 2005? There are some prominent names missing, even from recent years, and I'm sure there are a number of athletes from years gone by that have slipped through the cracks. While it would be easy to rattle off the 5 or 6 most deserving athletes from football and basketball in the last 5-10 years, I would almost guarantee that we may see two from post-1990 and three or four more from the decades before that.
Everytime I look back over the list, it seems like I remember someone else that could make a good case, but isn't there, so here's a preliminary list I've come up with (sticking with the post-1990 crowd primarily) of those who will be in some day, and who I think is due in 2005:
Anthony Stacey - Career points leader in MBB, is an automatic pick at SOME point to get in, this year seems like he'd be the MBB frontrunner, since its his first year of eligibility.
Antonio Daniels - Another "automatic", one would think, but still not in 3 years after becoming eligible, maybe there isn't a rush to induct him.
Brian Holzinger - Same notes as Daniels, though with 2005 being the 10th anniversary of his Hobey Baker win (and a ceremony they already had with him and George McPhee during the season), this year seems like a likely one for 'Zinger.
Andy Tracy - Maybe not this year, but lettering in football (even "just" as a punter during the high octane early '90s) and starring on the baseball team will certainly be enough to get him in eventually.
Steve Klein - All-time points leader when he graduated from the men's soccer team, held the all-time assists record and was fourth in total goals with HOFer Neil Ridgway after his senior season.
Talita Scott - Second all-time leading scorer in WBB history after her senior season, the only member of the top six all-time scorers not in the BG HOF. Averaged 16 points over her junior and senior season, helping the Falcons to back-to-back NCAA appearances. I don't know about this year, but she's in the "eventual lock" category.
I think that's a good start. Certainly there will be a few from past decades, and swimmers, runners and coaches inducted (Moe Ankney is probably not on that list!). They usually announce the inductees in July, so it gives time for the memories to fly!
