Spring Game Update!

He had a very nice endzone catch in the fourth quarter. I didn't think he was going to keep his feet in bounds, but man he proved me wrong.

Alexander had a couple of drops at the end of the game. And man did Sanders FLY on that reverse.

Keep in mind that Alexander should still be roaming the halls of his high school right now and making plans for the Senior Prom. Given his youth, I think he was mighty impressive.

My thoughts and opinions.

Corey Partridge is a stud. I would not be surprised to see him leave school as the new career reception leader. Sorry Cole. He was damn impressive. I really like that kid, he has guts.

My favorite player Steve Sanders was flying out there. Him and Sharon will be unbelievable this Fall. Derrick Lett, Alexander, Ruiz, and I am sure I am missing another also looked good.

It looks like Omar has found some touch on his long throws. That was my big knock on him last season and it really wasn't much of a knock. It was great to see both him and Turner completing long over the shoulder throws. I was also happy to see that it looks like Turner is everything he was hyped up to be.

Our top three RB's and the offensive line looked dominant at times. All three of those guys run well and catch out of the backfield. Macon is coming along quite well. I was hoping to see a little 2rb set but I was happy to see the TE in the game a lot more.

It was really hard to judge the defense. Our offense was nearly unstoppable the last 9 games this past season, and had Omar had more experience at the time you could probably add Oklahoma and NIU to that list. They made some good plays but they definitely got torched one too many times which is troubling. However, I think our offense would make any defense look bad. I honestly think they are that good. A fair prediction is that they will once again give up a lot of yards next season. I am really looking forward to watching the games at Wisconsin and Boise on TV. Well it was a wonderful day to watch some football, I am beat, I got way too much sun.

I think we did a better job of getting pressure on the QB than I thought we would. Schaffer mad a very nice play to stuff a reverse and he got a sack or two. Mack did a nice job keeping containment on a couple of wide runs.

The secondary looked bad. Van Johnson made some nice plays, but when the first and second unit offenses compile over 700 yards combined in the air and you play the second half with a running clock...that's a real red flag.

Adding an athletic TE like Ruiz to the guys we already have is just sick. Partridge, Jones, Lett and Alexander look to be morre than suitbale replacemntrs for Hawkins, Magner and McGrady.

I've been watching BG football for something like 25 years. We have NEVER had this much offensive talent. It's not even close.

I was starting on a post about pleasant surprises and such, but noticed Flipper and Kdog beat me to it :duh: j/k

But anyway, talking about offensive weapons, look at all the names who could be big factors based off of what happened today.

QB: Omar and Turner... Yikes

RB: Pope, Lane, Macon
WR: Sharon, Sanders, Partridge, Alexander, Lett, Jones, Parks, Emans, and several other WR's we didn't see much of today.
TE: Ruiz and O'Drobinak, who I was afraid was destined to be purely a blocker. It was nice to see a few passes thrown his way.

There will be some great depth on the line. We should be able to pound people all day and keep our line fresh.

That's alot of fire power. As good as the offense has been the past few seasons, this could be the best version yet.

I just don't know what to think about the D yet, but I feel they should be improved, at least a little. Like others have said, is it really fair to judge them against our offense when they are spread so thin? We have alot more depth on offense than we do on defense

Personally, I like how Timchenko kicks off. The ball does seem to kind of lose steam in the last 10-15 yards its in the air, but it hangs there forever and almost always dropped inside the 10. If he can give the coverage that much time to get down there and still force a return, we should be able to pin people back quite a bit this year.

Everytime I hear/read something about Timchenko kicking, I think of the kicker on the Simpsons at Homer's homecoming game... Its actually quite funny.

Just don't let Homer (or Flipper) behind the wheel of a homecoming float, and we should be just fine.

Ditto on almost everything here. A couple other points.

We ran under center much more than normal. It was an interesting look, and will, at least, give Wisconsin something to prepare for when they get this film.

In another thread I worried about our receivers beyond Sharon/Sanders. Not anymore. I am sold.

Finally, maybe the D didn't really get a fair chance. We are going to torch teams this year. Still, we essentially didn't run the score up on ourselves in the second half. We did get a little pressure, but I think as a whole the D looked bad and didn't bring anything on the run or the pass. Time will tell, but given what we saw last year, what we lost, and what I saw today, its hard to believe they are better than last year.

If there is anything that I'm worried about going into next season, it is our defense, particulary the secondary. I think the D-line will be ok, as will the line backers, but the D-backs leave me worried. We were weak there last year, and I didn't see anything today that makes me feel better. My only hope is that a) our offense is that good, and b) they will play better as a whole unit, not divided into Orange and White squads. I still feel confident about the upcoming season though. I honestly think with a lot of hard work, and a little luck we will contenting, if not playing for a MAC title. Should be a season (even with the sucky schedule)

Ooooh... now you're hitting below the belt!

Though that phony degree did allow me to drink my way through my senior year....

You brought it up. I've been wanting to play that one, what with all the communication type majors on here (I once dated a VCT major, she never could really tell me what she would do with it). Besides you can drink your senior year with any degree. Just call refer to the time as "discussing the philosphy of your work and life". Its what UK and I do at lunch still do at least once a week.

Oh, I don't doubt that. She was clueless on a lot of things.
