The Spring Game Attendance........

OSU routinely gets 25k or more to their game, and they charge admission. I do believe that the admission funds are usually given to charity, at least, but still...

They charge ADMISSION?!?! Que? My dad and I are going down to that this weekend, but I didn't realize that we have to pay for it? Thats ridiculous!

Oh, and just to make it clear, I'm not going because of any affinity for OSU. My rejection of everything involving a nut for a mascot still stands. But, with moving to Arizona next year my father and I have very few chances to share sporting events for a while. He loves the Buckeyes, and misguided as he is, he is OSU alum so I can't TOTALLY fault him...

I'm happy to note, though, that the other day he said to me: "I don't know if the Wisconsin game is going to be televised nationally or not. If I have to drive to a bar in BG to see that, I will." 8)

I have probably been to 20-25 Spring Games over the years, and I thought this was by far the biggest crowd we have ever had........way more than 600!!! Lot L, the grass between the stadium and ice arena and some out in the big lot (AZZ etc) made for a very respectable crowd. Frankly, I don't give a damn if Florida had 5 or 5 million at their game, nor do I care if I ever hear another word about UM. Good bye, good ridance, good luck and GO FALCONS!!!

My English teacher is a huge fan and he is going down to the game. He said it only cost 5 dollars per person if that makes you feel any better.

Knowing the two English teacher at Rossford High, you can tell him where to stick his OSU tickets!!! I'm assuming you're talking about Mr. Krieger, though I wouldn't put anything past that Edmond character... I think he was a UT grad... ::puke:: Actually, they were two of the better teachers while I was there, good guys despite their choice of schools.

I have to ask though, looking at the RHS website, is the business teacher Mr. Matz a tall guy with red hair? If so, he's a BG grad, and another good guy!

Thats 6 dollars too much. Hate the buckeyes. Tired of being treated like crap because I don't go to Columbus, or I don't worship at the Horseshoe (not from anyone on here). I think they are vastly over rated and the athletic program down there is in serious trouble. I love being a Falcon!! BGSU!!!!!

I was there for that game - Denny Stolz's 100th career victory and one of two unbelievable comebacks during the 1985 season. The sight of Meehan leaping to catch the game winner is forever etched in my mind.

Yeah, but the memory of most around here doesn't reach that far back. I still read articles in the student paper every now and then, about how UK needs to schedule MAC teams to get some wins. Of course, that might be changing after the home loss to Ohio.

I am going to the game, too. However, my sister, the OSU alum, had to purchase tickets by Monday. This makes me wonder if you can pay at the gate? Do know, plus I don't care because it is OSU and their money grubbing policy. I will just be a guest Saturday.

Spring football attendance has no consistent flow. Some years it is better than others, and the record from the previous season does not seem to have any impact on that.

I don’t think there were 600 people there, that’s a high and optimistic number. I don’t think the actual figure is too far off of it, but it gives the benefit of the doubt in favor of the estimate.

I knew somebody would think the crowd was an issue. If we had 20,000 people there, somebody would think we should have had 30,000. Its spring football, a totally unrealistic exercise in the game of football, which serves as a scrimmage first and foremost and as a distant second, chance to get a football fix for some fans. Its not an obligation for fans to be there, it doesn’t typically amount to anything come the regular season, and attendance shouldn’t even be allowed to be a point of concern.

Huh? What spring game were you at? There were two or three during Blackney's time after 1995, which were all bigger in attendance than this past week.

There a few tailgates, some more over by the other fields. But if all of those people were actually in the stadium I'd be shocked. The crowd was sparse. It may have approached 600 with the people in the boxes, but not any more than that.

At first I thought there were at least 1,000 people there but now I think 600 was probably a pretty accurate number. I've been to many spring games and that was a pretty decent size crowd.

IT WAS FALCON FOOTBALL!!! Awesome seeing the Orange and Brown out on the field.

First, if there are people who hate OSU so much why keep brining them up on this forum? It makes you all look like you have Buckeye envy!! Second, why are we criticizing raising money for charity?? This is a good thing to do and would it have hurt to drop 5 bucks here at BG and help out thone in need? They do what they do, and we do what we do. Leave it at that until they are on our schedule next. I can't stand the University of Michigan, but you don't see me slamming them each and every time they are brought up on this forum! Many have said it before, but keep this to BG football, thats why we are here. Now you can stoke the fire and get ready to burn me at the steak because I said positive things about OSU.

600 doesn't really sound right to me. I don't get why they didn't count the people coming in. I noticed at some gates they were handing out rosters and at others they were not. I don't know if they are going off of how many rosters they handed out or what.
I do know that i have been to games where the official attendence is like 12k but it seems like there are only 6k, so to say there was only 600 people there seems too low to me. A lot of people came late and left early I noticed too.

I'm the one who brought OSU up, as a basis for comparison. Somebody was working under the premise that UF had great attendance because of the new coach & the fact that southerners are nuts about football. I was just posting a basis for comparison for a more local large school.

I also noted that they charged admission, because they do, and they still draw in more than we get for a typical regular season game.


And I do NOT hate OSU, in fact I'm a fan of them, so I'm not the one ripping them for this or that. I remember when they started charging for the game, I thought it was a good way to raise some funds for charities.

I was just trying to bring this to our attention that the spring game attendance can be a judge of our overall intrest in the program. I just think that 600 or even 1,000 or so is too low for a team that has had 5 straight winning seasons and 2 straight bowl wins.
