2006 Mock Draft

I don't know who this guy is but he has a mock draft for next year. He has Omar going #15 and Gradkowski #8

What a terrible mock draft. That is laughable. First of all, no way Gradkowski goes ahead of Omar, unless Omar gets hurt. Second of all, the thought of Gradkowski going to the Bills is enough to make me throw up. No way the Bills lose enough to get the 8th pick either. I don't see how anyone can make a mock draft a year in advance with as much parity as there is in the NFL. There is just no way to know.

I agree, just found it interesting. Plus Buffalo has Losman. No way do they take a QB in the first round next year.

Well, I say this for Walter...he certainly gives the MAC some love by having four MAC players go in the first round.

If Gradkowski goes in the top 10 I'll eat a bug. I'd be shocked if he's a first day prospect when NFL teams work him out.

All bias aside, I honestly do believe that Gradkowski wouldn't even be anywhere near the board right now considering the state of his throwing hand. He was terrible in the MCB (though he did JUST have surgery) and he didn't play at all in their spring game. He's going to have to prove his hand is fully healed before he touches a draft board.

Exactly. Tim Couch is what happens when you draft a weak armed guy who excelled in college by throwing nothing past 10 yards.

Tim Couch is what happens when you put the WORST offensive line in the NFL on the field with him or anyone for that matter. Couch got killed when he played with the Browns. His arm was plenty strong for the NFL and he threw plently of deep balls at UK to prove he could do it. Unlike Brucie.

I think people forget that Tim Couch actually lead the Browns to the playoffs which is a lot more than what they can say before he was there and since he left. Give him a break, I mean look at where he went to college. It's not his fault. (actually it is but thats a whole different story) The point is that he did succeed with the browns give him some slack.

Couch did not throw the deep ball well at UK or Cleveland.

Here are some pre-draft opinions on Couch:

ProFootballWeekly.com-Needs a lot of work on his deep passing and must adjust to the fact that NFL defensive backs will break on the ball a lot faster than the college players he generally faced

Fanball.com-Couch lacks the big arm, but his deft touch is perfectly suited for Cleveland's shorter passing game

CNNSI-Couch rarely was asked to throw the ball deep downfield in Kentucky's offense, which emphasized short passes and screens, and his arm strength has been questioned by some pro scouts

Sporting News-A talented, accurate thrower with a nice touch on the ball, but he doesn't have a cannon.

Couch did not have a strong arm, and he did not throw the deep ball well at Cleveland. I didn't watch too much of him at UK, so I cannot be positive.

I do, to some extent, agree that his OL hurt him as much as anything however. When he first came up he had good enough mechanics, and he was accurate enough in the short-intermediate game (90% of the game anyway) to be effective. Unfortunately the beating he took killed his body & ruined his mechanics. He got happy feet, and stopped stepping into throws.

So I guess Couch is a combination of a weak armed, short passing college QB and an awful OL that beats what talent there is right out of him. I still don't think Brucie is an NFL prospect of any real value, and certainly not top 10.

Remember though, these same websites that you are quoting, are also the one's that said that Akli Smith had the stongest arm of any QB in the draft. A strong arm does not alone make a NFL QB. Couch did have the skills to be a solid NFL QB, however his situation did not warrant success. I still hold to my claim that Couch at least through the deep ball with accuracy here at UK. Keep in mind though that the receivers were usually much more wide open that his with Cleveland.
